Baldur's Gate Descent into Avernus: Dungeons and Dragons Story Explained

Ойындар

Hey D&D peeps!
This video will outline the story and "good" ending of Dungeons and Dragons' Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. I wanted to make it consistent with the story of Baldur's Gate 3 but, at the time of this recording, the game is not out yet. This adventure is one of the longer ones so it took a bit of time to make. These do take quiet a bit of effort on my end so please like and subscribe if you enjoy them! If you have any feedback, do let me know!

Yeah through these models I typically played my fiendish warlock, but for this one I played ranger. In the Rise of Tiamat my warlock failed to resist the full extents of his power he was given and at the time was given a unknown fate by my dm. Then here comes my ranger entering a homebrew camp site with my warlock being a general in the armies of hell. There was a bunch of other stuff that happened, but that was great call back

This was awesome!!! I had no idea about most of this lore though I knew the story of the hellriders and got to play a Paladin in Hoard of the Dragon Queen who was dispatched to aid. This does give a lot more context for BG3 as well. TYVM! But I gotta be honest....doesn't this completely mess up the lore in BG3 in a big way? Like the Zariel in the game is almost a completely different character. Its a very odd choice on their part. There would have been 1000 different ways they could've finished this story without breaking their own character or cannon going into BG3 with a pretty evil Zariel. Maybe I'm crazy but I just don't get it.

I did not. The video was made using Talespire. It's still in the early stages but has tons of community made maps so its quite handy!

My first campaign ever and my dm quit on us 8 games in. We barely made it out of balder's gate, never got close to avernus

My DM ran this campaign a few years back but he made a few changes I super appreciated, most notable being at the very beginning: instead of just hearing that Elturel disappeared (yawn), he had our characters live in Elturel for a few days before finding a way to gather us all on a hill overlooking the city, so we could witness it falling into Avernus ourselves. We stopped playing before the end though (and that's why I'm here watching this video), partly due to COVID but also partly because monster resistances & immunities quickly got annoying. Right off the hop, every creature you encounter takes little to no damage from non-magic weapons, fire, cold, and lightning... suffice it to say, our casters did not enjoy combat against these creatures. It did not help that caster turns in D&D 5e are often underwhelming: it's easy to miss a target's AC with a spell attack; it's even easier to have your spell saved against, completely negating its effect; you can't maximize your turns by using both your action and bonus action, because you're not allowed to expend two spell slots in one turn, and the less said about the fun-limiting "concentration" mechanic, the better. I suppose you could argue that we should've taken a more informed approach with character creation for the campaign (i.e., everyone plays only clerics or paladins) but this was early days for us and we wanted to play whatever.

I hope I'm not alone in hoping that Planescape 5e, in addition to some new inspired art, sees WotC use some Tony DiTerlizzi art from Planescape 2e. His art IS Planescape forever!

Excellent video, but I would just like to point out that you meant cavalry, calvary is defined as an open-air representation of the crucifixion of Jesus or an experience of usually intense mental suffering. All the same, I enjoyed it and even confess to getting a little emotional when the time to redeem Zariel came.

This story felt wrong, that a non god was able to take a piece of the material realm. Ignoring that other entities would have moved to stop it, every big bad throughout the realms would be doing

  • @DnDWalkthrough

I agree that it is a bit strange that a non-god could do feats as that but I just report what I read! My opinion is, and it may be wayyy off base but, because Zariel became an archdevil in the Nine Hells, she effectively has a challenge rating of 25-30. I know challenge rating is a lame way to justify the abilities of an entity but it could be a reason as to why she was able do it. It's been a while since I've read the adventure but if I recall correctly, she might've gained some strength from Asmodeus as well but it's been a while. Let me know if you think otherwise! Like I said, I may be way off base.

Now that Baldur's Gate 3 is out, on hindsight, it kind of makes sense that the other Gods were strangely absent with something like this happening. This was just a trigger for the events of Baldur's Gate 3 to play out. The Gods were moving their pieces to protect themselves from a greater threat rather than move to protect Elturel from Zariel.

also a single devil lord couldnt move a entire city to hell, all she is is a angel. Also its strictly forbidden to take souls without them signing a contract. If it was a demon I could understand but not a devil. @@1Invinc
