@@Solaris2000APB I wouldn't say it's got horrible mechanics. I love DOS2. But the stat scaling on item levels through thousands and tens of thousands when loot is limited doesn't sit well with me (though modding community solves this problem). BG3 loot on the other hand is enchantment based and if you take a liking to an item like the Guidance cantrip necklace, it's more than ok to keep it on hand. Ultimately DOS2 is a great game and can't wait for BG3 full release.

@@mix1ro I have it on both PC and the physical limited run edition on Switch. I play it on PC at 4K maxed out locked 144 FPS and the game looks incredible. While it’s amazing it’s even able to run on Switch at all and it’s still very fun and enjoyable. Out of my 100% playtime I’d say it’s 80% PC 20% Switch and everything I said is true the game is still great and fun on Switch. The difference between the two versions is HUGE. Like I’m talking HUGEeee. The graphics are FAR worse. The lower 30 fps that even dips into the 20s sometimes is mostly fine due to the style of game it is. The controls on Switch are also pretty solid but no you can’t use touch screen in game which is a damn shame. I love this game one of my favorite games ever. I’m not home a lot so I play it on Switch when I can’t be on my PC. That’s what the Switch version is great for imo. Steam cross save compatibility let’s you use the same save across both platforms. It compliments the PC version really well and pairs great with it. But as for only playing it on the Switch I don’t think I could, not after playing it on PC.

Fireball, Lightning bolt, Call Lightning, Haste, Slow, Mass Healing Word, Counterspell, Fly, Gaseous Form, Animate Dead, Beacon of Hope, Melfs Minute Meteors, Sleet Storm, Bestow Curse, Remove Curse, Speak with Dead, Water Walk, Water Breathing, Tidal Wave, Thunder Step, Spirit Guardians, Stinking Cloud and MORE. There is SO MANY amazing spells at level 5! Like seriously, this is THE level where Wizard stops being a nerd with stick and becomes Death, Destroyer of Worlds! I'm serious, during our play in Tomb of Annihilation, I've prevented entire encounter against army of undead by unleashing single fireball at them. This was so satisfying! As mentioned Armors follows the 5'th ed rulset. And is one of the areas you potetially can "Mess up your character" from the start if you want to min/max. If so you might want to plan a bit ahead a bit when creating your character. As an example If you got a character that is or will be proficient with medium Armor, chances are you want to set the characters Dexterity to 14 (=+2 Armor Class (AC)). As Medium armor suports a maximum of +2 AC from dex modifier. (Or if your adventurus you can ignore it and go for a more stealth/ranged typed build an go over the "soft cap".) On the other hand light or no armor have no dexterity modifier limitations, so Playing a dexteity based character can potetially get decent AC aswell. Or you can wear Heavy armor witch have a high AC but will get no additional AC from dexteity. Magic +1 (AC) Armors does exist, aswell as "rare" Armors enchanted with various effects. Shields will also increase AC by 2, but as a general rule make sure your character is proficient with anything you equip or major penalties will apply,

In a video game if you fail the skill check, There may be more goblins to fight, Or the Princess is killed by the goblins, Aside from that there won't be much consequences either way. Maybe the loss of the reward if the princess dies. In the tabletop RPG you fail the stealth check, The story can take a nigh infinite number of turns as a result of that. For example, The Princess dies , As a result of this the king's is overcome by stress, and grief, He dies a week later after hearing the news. The kingdom has gone to ruin, Dukes & Counts are warring over the remaining pieces of the kingdom. Or Maybe, Instead of that, The king's loyalists keep his death a secret, But time is ticking, They call upon the party to assist them in finding the long lost bastard of the king. Forcing the party into a investigation that the very realm's safety is dependant on. Or maybe.... You get the Idea. RNG should only be in a game if it serves a purpose, If it doesn't, What's the point? I'm not saying D&D is bad, D&D is great! Just not.... As a video game. I was hoping they build a new system from the ground up for a Video Game, Using D&D Lore. Instead they just crammed the tabletop system from one medium, To another. Trying to cram a cube into a round hole. It just doesn't work. BG3 is peak mediocrity in almost every aspect.

I feel like the point about the BG3 characters having less impact per turn isn’t entirely fair. In 5e the classes really hit their stride at lv5. In BG3 early access the level cap is 4 but will be 10 in full release. Most of the heavy impact spells, etc. will be available at the higher levels but not available to a low level character that is in the current release.

I understand the isometric view for talking to characters gives more tactical elements, but it would be fantastic if you could switch in between the views from iso to ground level for dialogue interaction. DOS 2 is one of my favorite games...character development, magic system, combat. Enemies were varied enough so that certain tactics weren't always winners. I had a blast finding different skill synergies. You could lose a fight 10 times in a row and then try and different approach and beat the enemy almost effortlessly. I built a rogue that specialized in Scoundrel and Air but as the game progressed he got into Necromancy and Hydromancy. Really felt like he was evolving, plus the mirrors allowed you to respec your team to constantly tweak their abilities. I wished Larian piled on more expansions, I was actually sad when I reached the end phase of the game.

It's so good to make use of the ability to run simultaneous rounds, I just think that's the main draw of making it a C-rpg; you can have scenes play out in real time. I do like the development and how i can interact with the world, the party stuff not so much. I'd rather mix spells and make combos or whatever alone than having at least two characters. I like that my character be one instead having a party as my character. So having the ability that one character can do it all is more appealing to me. DOS2 has very little in common with DnD mechanics outside of being turn based, but if the turn based part is what you mean, I think dos2 is quite friendly (on definitive edition, anyway). It starts with a tutorial and if you forget what something does, a description is just a hover/button press away at all times. However, the combat is completely different from the fast, multi-action style of a hack-n-slash and you will not get that kind of combat experience. I recommend looking up some footage of combat encounters to see if it'll be a deal breaker for you. Otherwise it is extremely customizable! Player classes mean nothing, you can pick up any combo of abilities and weapons as long as you put points into them.

Both games combined wouldn't be perfect either imo. As much as I love the DoS "modern" franchise and the current content of BG3 they have major flows in my opinion. The way you navigate the world still feels quite clunky compared to many games, the UI is still to this day really underwhelming by moments (even though it's getting better and better in BG3, I particularly like the Character sheet UI now, but the inventory and hotbars in combat in particular are still pretty bad). It also feels like BG3 is going for a much bigger scope and budget than DoS2 did, if you compare both Early Access / first act the content in BG3 feels like there will have a lot more things to do in the end. Companions are handled better than before too. I never liked companion quests in DoS2 they felt really forced into each act (especially the third act, it never made sense to me) whereas BG3 so far companions are interesting and you genuinely want to decipher them and see where it will lead.

May be it would be useful to make a video for the players who dislike DoS-2, but like the whole (A)D&D RPG corpus that evolved in more than 20 years starting from the legendary Baldur's Gate. I think it's pretty clear that the Pathfinder games are the real heir to the Baldur's Gate legacy. Making Divinity 3, slapping a Neverwinter Nights skin on it, and calling it Baldur's Gate just reeks of cynical, emotionally manipulative marketing. Perhaps they just don't have faith in their Divinity IP, which to be fair is the weakest aspect of DOS2, and see a big established name like Baldur's Gate as the best way to elevate their work moving forward. I'm not convinced that being so blatantly indifferent to the original Baldur's Gate series in their design decisions will accomplish that.

Found this video from the other side of the equation :) I got DOS2 on sale last weekend, coming from BG3. Here are my first impressions. (For the record, I'm not a crpg "expert" but I'm certainly a veteran of the genre.) DOS2 is a "classic," old school crpg and a pretty complex one. BG3 now feels like the dumbed down version of DOS2 to me. A more positive way of saying that is that BG3 is more accessible -- and that's a good thing. But the complexity of DOS2 will be a turn off for a lot of people and the simpler mechanics of BG3 might turn off hardcore rpg players. BG3 kicks everyone and everything's bum on cinematic grandeur and immersivity as well as, of course, choices. On that level, I adore BG3 and in many ways enjoy the *experience* of playing it much more than DOS2 so far. And there's the main difference. Both are very much in the crpg genre, but they deliver different experiences. DOS2 seems to be a deep dive into "classic" crpgs, with deep mechanics and gameplay. BG3 is a deep dive into cinematic grandeur and immense immersivity. The graphics and the cut scene art are very old school in DOS2; this might be a turn off for people expecting the cinematic experience which BG3 delivers. Both are amazing at what they do, but they *are* different.

Here you go: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o4WlwbmsgKnPdNY.html D&D Dice 101 Also your stats and class features will give you modifiers to boost your dice rolls. It's no different than in a pokemon game or KOTOR (or any number of JRPGs) where you hit or miss with your attacks, it's just that BG3 puts the dice on the screen instead of hiding it. A +1 modifier on a D20 is the same as saying +5% attack, or a class saying you crit at 19 and 20 instead of just at 20 is that same as saying +5% crit chance, for example. For additional math: let's say the low level enemy has an Armor Class of 11 (you have to roll to hit an 11 or higher). You roll a D20 and add your modifiers. If say you have modifiers that give you +5 to hit, you only need to roll a 6 out of 20 to hit that AC 11 enemy (6+5=11). That's a 75 percent chance of success. So you should have good chances. Even as enemies get harder, as long as your modifiers are increasing with your levels (which they should automatically) or you get advantages on attacks (you choose the higher of two dice rolls), say by attacking your enemy when they're prone on the ground or grappled by vines, your OP character should do just fine. Also, lots of Area of Effect and poison/necrotic/charm type attacks/spells as well as traps require the enemy to roll dice to "save" instead of your own character rolling dice. So the dice rolling goes both ways. *I've only played D&D, not this video game

As someone who owns both games but hadn’t played with either series before dos2 or bg3 I’d say this is a pretty good summary of both of them. One point I’d like to add though is that, for me personally dos2 felt a lot easier to pick up and learn as I went along. Bg3 is much more complex of a game and it’s systems are much more involved than dos2 felt at any point to me. Loving bg3 so far in early access but not gonna lie, I’m still struggling with understanding all of its various rules and systems.

Aside for the obvious ramp-up in visuals and production value, "No shitty randomized loot" is arguably the single biggest improvement of BG3 over DOS 2. When it comes to the rest of the core game mechanics, it tends to be more a matter of taste which one you prefer. To BG3's defense, the extremely low level tier currently included in the alpha build is notoriously where D&D struggles the most to give you tactical options and remain engaging. From level 5 going up things should improve decisively.

And overall my experience is positive, i started it on classic, and so far i had my moments of frustrations, but working with guides did help. I just finished act 1, and i dunno what else game has for me, so far it's been hard, i won some fights by working outside the box, it feels different from games i played, i play to my strengths and their weakness, at times it feels like i am almost breaking the rules for games i got in my head. Tried Baldur Gate 2 and i couldn't do it, ai felt all over the place and combat felt, well felt bit broken. Tho i did hear Steam version is all over the place. But i wanna see Divinity 2 to it's end, i already have over 100 hours on games like Dragon Age Origins, which took some cues from games like these. And i wanna see if Baldur Gate 3 will be good. I would argue that Baldur's Gate 3 looks visually much better or improved a lot tbh. More details on the character models, especially since the game provide close up dialog system & cutscenes that simply didn't exist in DOS2. Also, Baldur's Gate 3 art design is "less cartoony" & very much aims to be a bit more serious dark-ish high fantasy themes.

This will be the period where we see a lot of buyers remorse in whatever media outlet we consume for the feedback of BG3. Larian will probably fail to address all the noteworthy bugs of the game right away and might change the files to increase performance and smoothness. Perhaps 3 months after the release the game will be smooth, but there will be a little bit of a piece missing, which is where modders come in. I think 5 months is what will be necessary to get a collection of various mods that will make the game feel more personal and easy to invest in for the player. I love the vanilla experience but modding makes this game so much better. It's just an opinion :)

In a video game is really hard to convey that in a meaning full way. Some classes/subclasses and multiclass builds have a limited number of spells you can pick from for instance. Because BG1 and BG2 aren't of the same genre. BG3 is a turn based RPG. BG1 and 2 are real time RPGs. This is a MAJOR change between the games, which is why they could never be compared to it. That system change alone separates it entirely from the rest of the BG series. Then there's the fact that BG3 has Dragon Age dialogue. Up close and more personal. But it does (or will) have the same exact party system of BG1 and 2 which apparently everyone forgot about. In BG1 and 2, if your whole party was LG but you were CE and started killing everyone you meet, your LG party will literally leave. And if you don't do something fast enough for your party member's, they'll get pissed and also leave. BG3 is going to have this exact system, which will react the exact same too. But no one seems to even remember BG1 or 2 lmao A game that's more like BG1 and 2 is actually Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2. And they aren't in the D&D world either, but their systems are also the exact same as BG1 and 2, and are real time too. It is a bit weird, but honestly I don't see an issue with Larian changing the game up
