Honestly pretty typical of Larian and I'm not sure why. Broken Shackles from DOS2 was not on the OST for a long time, and that's one of the better songs in the game.

@@Chopstorm. That's typical for a lot of Studios. You only publish a few selected samples of your OSTs publically and keep many of the good stuff for the actual game. So music stealers and such have it harder to steal your work. Same as you don't provide usually a downloadable 3D Model on Artstation as a 3D Designer. Just render images and videos.

The music is variable. The official soundtrack just uses the default version of the songs, but there's different versions of all the combat themes that trigger depending on what happens. Like if one of your characters is downed, that changes the song. Killing an enemy of higher level than you or with a crit is also its own variations. And so on.

The drider can appear at least twice, once when he leads you through the underdark and again when he he fights you alongside Ketherac

Can't wait for a full "unofficial OST" mix that has a full version of this in it. So many good tracks that just aren't included in the OST

I still cannot find that one ''active'' theme, when the music just changes, when you land a crit, or overall get advantage. I don't mean that epic version of down by the river, but usually the music that i get after i do a multi attack as Lae'zel. Wonder if it even has a proper name, if anyone knows about which song i am talking about. It's a very short fragment, taking maybe like 20 seconds. I would call it like a ''power play'' or something like that. Anyone can help?

That's why I love video game soundtracks. Doesn't need a single word to tell you "You're in DEEP shit and fighting for you life."

After I heard this I was humming the violin part to myself for the rest of the game, that part is just so catchy

God, the claustrophobic ambience, the otherworldly fanaticism of the drider, and the tension of the encounter was just tied together so fucking perfectly with this string and drum piece. I was actually afraid during this fight. It was hard enough doing a 9v1 against Kar'niss, I was so lucky to have a Banishment spell that passed the 55% difficulty on my first character.

I scrolled through the entire ost and all the five-hour videos in an attempt to find THIS PART, THANK God

Same, I was listening to the soundtrack while driving around for work and when it finished I was like "uh hello where is that one creepy battle music?!"

Driders look so fucking sick in this game, easily the best they've ever looked.

“HERETICS!! VILLAINS IN THE DARK!!!”

This song, and this part in particular just hit spectacularly well. Proof that off-putting boss battle music is better than overly-orchestrated bombastic pieces.

But if by overly orchestrated you mean music like from dark souls where it's all overblown with choir and messy instruments with no care for volume control, then yes I agree over orchestrated music isn't that pleasant. But fromsoft also made the bloodborne ost and that is much better orchestrated and cleanly performed than the dark souls series ost. Just making sure you're differentiating between orchestral music and over orchestrated music. Because calling music like this better than orchestral epic pieces as a whole is a load of shit.

@@zlomcio1can't be a hurdy-gurdy since there's a clear legato, even glissando almost in the strings, which would be impossible with a ''pressed notes'' based instrument like the hurdy-gurdy. It really does sound like a Gadulka tho

If I had to guess, the main instrument is a viola on the lower strings played very roughly. You can hear in certain parts the bow popping up and bouncing a little when they change to another string, and that only happens when you are both drawing heavily on the string and playing quickly. You can also hear at parts throughout the song a higher pitched screechy noise, and that's usually achieved by playing below the bridge.

And with this, Baldur Gate 3 just secured itself the best OST of the year award.

I just reached ACT 2 the other day, heard this in a battle and HAD to find the music immediately. It is very unusual to for titles to not be clickbait on YT. This is one of them. Thanks for this! I wish this part at 0:15 has a name and an extended version.

Oh wow, yeah this is one of the most memorable soundtracks IMO, especially after all that time spent around Moonrise and the Gauntlet.

We’re only on act 2 so still have a lot of content to go, but the Shadowlands is my favourite area so far. They captured the feeling of the place so perfectly, the sound effects, the music, I just love it so much

Just what i was looking for. It's amazing.

Hearing this while fighting the Shadows for the first time was incredible and what pushed the game to 11/10 for me (there were more amazing moments later of course but I thought the way they had adapted Shadows, a notoriously hard enemy to run in D&D, so well to the screen was unbelievably impressive.)

Youre in middle of nowhere, surrounded by shadows, hearing Shadowheart mumbling prayers to Shar, you see Karlach looks at the Shadows with rage, noone will stop her reaching Baldurs gate, Laezel has fire in her eyes against the hit and runner shadows. You pray you dont attract too much attention as you open your eyes and tell you magic words to rain elements on them.

There's another track that I've heard a few times and can't find in the OST, I think it was more ambient/exploration music for certain areas. The melody sounded very similar to Gaunter O'Dimm's theme from The Witcher 3

Fighting Orin in the temple of Baal... After a few frustrating turns finally land the killing blow on an opponent and this music hits. It just changes the entire vibe from being frustrated to feeling unleashed. My favourite piece of the entire soundtrack.

If you like this kind of music you'll love a few tracks from Tainted Grail: Conquest OST

i turned the music off when i was in character creation for 2h and forgot to turn it on untill i was in act 2 at the very end lol

For those who like this style of music, I highly recommend checking out the music for both American McGee's Alice games.
