Baldur's Gate 3 Speedrun Explained

Ойындар

In this video, I fully explain the tricks used to speedrun Baldur's Gate 3 in under 4 minutes. These include glitches such as wall clips, shadowboxing, and more. The speedrun featured is currently the world record speedrun on speedrun.com, and you can view the unedited run there without voiceover if you wish.
This was a MASSIVE undertaking for me and it was especially nerve-wracking to produce voiced content for an audience the first time (you can tell how shaky my voice is lol). Thanks to all who supported me while making it. :)

I've gotten a lot of comments about how the narration in this video is too fast -- sorry! Was very anxious recording this because it was my first time doing voiceover for a video. I'll keep this in mind going forward and try to keep things at a more digestible pace. Join my Discord server full of dastardly individuals and dastardlier memes: discord.gg/yzmdzy9WXj

Speedrunning voiceovering 😂 english isnt my main language but i can understand it spoken pretty well, listening to it for 20 years; what makes me harder to follow the phrases here i think its that some portions of the words are whispered or too much compacted and my brain needs to spend a bit more time to analyze them and pan out the correct word, and coupled to the speed it lags behind therefore it has to skip portions of the phrases to keep the pace, resulting for me getting a fragmented message. Nice game speedruns tho!

Elminster patiently waits for Gale in the mountain pass, expecting him to arrive in about a week or two. He knows what he's about to ask of Gale is a great sacrifice. Suddenly, weeks ahead of schedule, Gale lands with a crash, seemingly having fallen from the sky. Before Elminster can even extend a greeting, Gale takes the power and immediately launches into the horizon, just as quickly as he arrived. No more than a minute later, Elminster notices the mushroom cloud forming in the distance.

Raph must be especially thrown off his game. He worked so hard rehearsing the cat-and-mouse rhyme and the "you need my help" speeches and Gale just ignores him and rudely lobs a single Magic Missile at him before performing a parlor trick fucked up enough for the Hells themselves. Then Gale and his ex-lovely assistant disappear, and moments later, there's a strange sickly glow beyond the mountains in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. He defused Raph's whole Crown scheme so fast and so absurdly that Raph might not even remember to be pissed off until days after the fact. Withers probably isn't that bothered. He's seen weirder.

Dang! You complete the game in less than 4 minutes. I've been playing BG3 for close to 500 hours now, and I still haven't completed Act 2. 🤣

I wonder how much longer a act 3 speed run ending would take, I assume it's not really doable since you have to fight the brain to kill it and here you don't need any fighting at all

It's doable but much, much longer. weedmoder is routing out all acts glitchless right now and I think she's gotten it down to 2 hours, while all acts with glitches is closer to ~50 minutes I think.

So, I like the video and I was actually able to follow along with how fast you were talking. That being said, what do you mean by "launch" shadowheart? Do I just move the box containing her into an invalid area again? Is there a specific spot you should move her to? or any invalid surface works?

Changing the playback speed to 0.75 made it easier to understand or you can change it to 1.5 for a speed run. Thanks for the video, really helped understand what going on

It's VERY specific positioning and hard to get, easily the hardest trick in the game. If it's something you want to explore further, check out the CPRG Speedrunning Discord server, where there's a ton more info on it.

How do you move something for shadow boxing, I cant seem to drag something to try to move it

  • @ZyliahWar
    @ZyliahWar9 ай бұрын

The speedrun is awesome, and this explanation is great, but there's one thing I don't understand: how do you launch the box? I understand setting the node, at least conceptually, but once you do that, is it just a matter of moving the container at all, and the game taking that as a command to send it to the node? If so, does that mean that the game essentially treats the next moved object as getting launched to the node (since you set the first node with the revivify scroll but launched the box), and if you accidentally move something else first you have to set the node again? Or does the node stay set and everything you move after that gets thrown? Or does the launch work in some other way I'm not grasping?

Any item placed in an invalid location sets a node. Think of a node as some coordinate that is stored by the game. Specifically, when an item is moving or is animating - when you move an item in that state, instead of it being dropped where you drag/dropped it, it flies to the node you set in an invalid space. In theory, for Larian engine games, an item requires 3 things to be moved: 1. A coordinate (we call this a node) 2. A mouse click/release action 3. A valid spot (no red cursor) So with the nodefling we fulfill: 1. We set a coordinate by dropping an item in an invalid space (game has this stored in memory) 2. We open a box and while it's animating click the box and release mouse 3. Valid spot: we are dropping the item to a nearby valid spot during a crate animation. At point 3, the game takes the coordinate from point 1 because it doesn't seem to set new nodes while a box is animating. This might imply the code is iterative. In theory, this means you can fulfill a nodefling like this: Have two characters 1. Character 1 sets a node way offscreen 2. Character 2 moves any item 3. Character 1 moves the item midair that character 2 is moving 4. When the item lands, since we have fulfilled all the conditions, the item should fly to the node. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rGWhxKtrpNPJcaQ.html

  • @Ryougi

Bind mouse scroll down as a secondary to interact (by default it's left click) and Leap to a key (default Z) Spam Z and scroll down simultaneously to a spot where you CAN jump. This forces your character to jump, even though it is blocked by walls.
