Balancing Cultural Consciousness and Retail with Kamaaina Focus: Manu Boyd at TEDxManoa

Manu Boyd serves as cultural director at Royal Hawaiian Center at Helumoa, a Kamehameha Schools property that generates revenues to support education. A graduate of Kamehameha and UH Mānoa's Kamakakū-okalani Center for Hawaiian Studies, Manu's career focuses on communications, Hawaiian cultural development, history, education and performing arts. In 1995, Manu graduated as kumu hula from Hālau Nā Kamalei O Līlīlehua, and has been a student of Kumu Hula Robert Uluwehi Cazimero since 1978. Fifteen years ago, he established his own school, Hālau o ke 'A'ali'i Kü Makani. Manu is recognized as one Hawai'i's foremost haku mele (composers) and is currently recording a collection of new Hawaiian music (2012). Manu is president of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu established by Prince Kalaniana'ole (1918) to elevate the social and intellectual status of Hawaiians and to increase pride in race heritage.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.     he has done so well in education and his experience in what he does very talented man..i admire in what he's doing...lovely to listen to his lecture of the history..very interesting...very intelligent man..
