Balancing college and starting a business | Kevin Lehtiniitty | TEDxUIUC

Millennials live with each foot in two separate lives. Kevin Lehtiniitty explores how he explored both what he wanted to do along with what society expected him to do and then reconciled the two different paths into his passion. The decision fell to one question: what if I succeed?
Kevin founded what has now grown into TINITT in the beginning of 2011. Before founding the company, he had already been working as a computer consultant since 2008 for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and various other current TINITT clients. He has also been designing and developing websites since 2007. In his free time, Kevin plays tennis and works on his other ventures.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I have college 9:15am to 4:30pm then work 5:00pm to 10:00pm/12:00am. I do struggle to find time for developing business plans etc. It's hard, it's very hard, but I manage

I'm with ya! Architecture studies and creating a business. It takes all the time, but it also separates people you know into real supportive friends and attention seekers.

One thing I got though for you, is how can you possibly develop a better business, grow, and innovate if you don't have time to plan and learn/read/research?

This is a great video. There’s this constant battle that goes on in my life between my education and business. Now that you say that I can make a crossroad between my education and business by taking marketing and business classes, which is what I am doing, I feel better. I think we all grind after our school or job and work on our side hustle, which will then possibly turn into our career, we have to ask our selves more positive outlook questions like you said. “What if we succeed?” instead of “What if we fail?” I think when our side hustle makes it big and we can quit our schooling and job, we as entrepreneurs have succeeded and removed this battle and duo paths.

It's 8:29pm of 02/03/2023 [just for reminding myself] Just few hours ago me and my father had a talk over my career, he was telling me what course should I choose, frankly speaking he was telling me what I am going to pursue! But then I told him that that i have already decided what i have to do and i thought that i may also fall in the trap of my parents traditional/old beliefs over career; But this didn't happened, instead of it my father told me do whatever course you like, choose any career path but never blame me.😐 . But I know for sure that i will make my father proud after 5 years 🧿

Wow, im in school, have a startup, work full time and in this very exact position. I even do business courses inbetween my majors courses. Are you my twin? I will be in a position in a couple months where i have to quit my really great job for a part time job to spend more time on school and the business. Would love to hear specifics on how you made your transition.
