I love watches, I wish I could justify 5k for one. Maybe a Longines Spirit and a new mountain bike.
Hi Tim, today I am very happy! Yesterday, 62% of us Chileans rejected a new Constitution that would have turned our country into another Latin American "communist paradise". So, thanks to our great victory, I will be able to talk about watches like this nice IWC without being considered a hopeless bourgeois or capitalist criminal. Greetings from Chile! I'm happy for you.
Within this genre, these are truly beautiful watches. I’m a reformed, former big watch guy and I’m sure when I first became aware of IWC, it would have been the Big Pilot and other large offerings. I’ve seen the light so to speak. These watches truly have a fine, balanced presence. That aside, I might look for a pre owned example of something from this series somewhere down the line. Aesthetically, to my eye, these are the top of the heap for the genre. I might be suffering from flieger burnout. I recently acquired an Omega Railmaster which makes use of an Aqua Terra 40mm case it ticks a lot of similar boxes for me. Bought new for a good price….. This was one of my more deeply satisfying purchases. The bar has been raised, that’s. Good thing. Beautiful watches, would need to find one at the right place, time and price - it would need to find me. Beautiful proportions that’s for sure.
Nice to see an IWC as watch of the week. Thanks
I strongly recommend you guys look at Mark 16. Much cheaper and in my opinion an excellent choice.. in some ways better than the XX (which is also great of course). I've had mine for a month and feeling very happy with the choice

i agree! 16 is a very clean one
This is a big step forward for the model and IWC as a brand. Well done.
I had a MkXVI. Great watch with the fabulous abd heavily adjusted ETA 2892-A2. I had no problem with this movement in a luxury watch. This latest iteration is beautiful and once on the amazing bracelet yet to arive then it will be complete.
A classic design. A bit pricey, but very nice nonetheless.
Great Watch... Too expensive.
I love the Mark watches by IWC. It makes me appreciate my Mark 16 even more. Great release by IWC with the Mark 20.
Simple yet very well made... Maybe you could compare it to a really expensive scoop of vanilla gelato... Delicious but is it really 10x better?
Lovely watch, but a bit big and too expensive for what it is I feel.
I had this watch and had to return two due to problems with the movement. Ended up going back to the MK 18. It is a beautiful watch but that experience soured me on this particular model. I still want a Spitfire though! Same movement. :(

Well proven at this point. It requires due diligence, but that goes for anything along these lines, even brand new.
Thanks for the review. #Cough# The price? Nice watch, but possibly one for the brand snobs. I like to do a bit of research so while cutting out the overheads and middlemen I bought a Timefactors Speedbird 111 - PRS22, a similar design of watch. The movement of course probably doesn't compare to this, certainly for power reserve, but the Selita SW200-1 Top movement is good enough and very accurate. Everything is of equal quality as my more expensive pieces. Is this piece negative pressure tested to 0.4 ATM, does the crown screw into a screwed in crown tube & not the case, anti-magnetic 20000 A/m? Getting hold of a Timefactors watch is a bit of a challenge, as the online shop is only open every few weeks or so at certain times for a few hours. They sell out quickly because of the cult status of the watches. I personally like the challenge and the buzz of getting hold of one. This at ten times the cost of the Speedbird which is an immaculate watch is a bit of a joke IMHO. If it's for you then fair play, part with your hard earned, not for me though.
Handsome. The blue works. But I ask you ... can a really dark grey dial with thermally blued hands be beaten for a Flieger?

Pricey but I like it a lot in blue.
I have a problem with that price....
Zeroeth.
*Much too expensive. I’d rather have a Longines or frankly, a Seiko but I also really like the watch. The adjustments to the dial and the shorter lugs are improvements.*
I think the white date wheel is much more legible but otherwise the mk 18 looks subtly better in every way

Callingit a Mk20 is frankly cheeky, why do they want to be confused with the premier chrono in the military aviation space? Oooh......I see, still wanky and cloth eared. Bad branding will kill a coolwatch, my first reaction is.."EH?"
I find extended power reserve totally unnecessary. Real watch-men like hand wound movements, the more interaction, the better.

They're not even in the same league, my friend. Once you handle a luxury piece and experience the quality of the polishing/brushwork, the insanely tight tolerances of machining, the smoothness of winding and setting time, how everything looks sharp and pristine even if you look at the features with a loupe (things a specs checklist will never tell you), you will understand.

@@joeskeptical4762 yep. I own a Sinn and an IWC with similar movements (ETA 2836-2 (not a Sellita) on Sinn, and 2892-A2 on IWC, both top grade) and yeah the movements themselves are both top grade ETAs and closely comparable on paper, but somehow IWC makes operating the crown feel insanely smooth, while the Sinn has always been gritty and "cheaper" feeling. And that's just talking about the crown operation. Little things like how the IWC presses the movement up right against the glass to make the dial look paper thin, how buttery and silently the bracelet links articulate while the Sinn feels like a jangly metal chain that just flops around, are little refinements here and there you just have to handle to appreciate which no specs sheet checklist will help you understand.

@@alevansebel Even Brand snobs like you have to admit that IWC is ridiculously overpriced. I am not paying over 5k for an ETA based movement. I dont care about how good you claim the case to be, for 5k there are so much better watches
