Bakugou Winter Hero Suit Tutorial

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

BAKUGOU HERO SUIT TOP PATTERN: www.etsy.com/listing/66352264...
EDIT 01/09/23: Etsy has deactivated my pattern, so I have made it available on Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/s/ca66187a39 - I would like this pattern out there to help all people who want to cosplay, so I have also switched it to be a "pay what you want" price. The pattern is free, but if you'd like to tip me for the efforts of creating the pattern and for this video, it is much appreciated!!
-
This is the first time I've put together a video tutorial so any feedback is appreciated!
The black and orange stretch fabric I got was from JoAnn's, but I don't know the specific name of them unfortunately. The specific knit interfacing I used as the Pellon EK-130, and I don't know the name of the sew-in one. I just grabbed a thick sew-in and it works just fine :)
If you use this tutorial, I'd love to see how it came out!! Making Bakugou's shirt is quite a task IMO. Tag me on IG at @stephstonecos or my FB page Stephanie Stone Cosplay :) Have fun!!

    This is really great. I am so nervous to sew the X into the shirt, but seeing you do it really helps. I now know how to do it and will refer to this as I'm sewing. Thanks it really helps!

    I'm so glad to hear that!! I think the X is definitely the hardest part to sew into the shirt and I went through it so many times that when I was filming this tutorial I wanted to do my best to share what I had learned to help out others haha. Thanks so much for letting me know! I appreciate it 😁 Good luck!

    I only have the collar to make and sleeves to attach have tons of great feedback on the whole thing! Firstly, I made a size small and used just under 1.5 yards of black spandex, 1 1/4 would have been enough but 1.5 is perfect in case of mistakes! I was cheap so I got like 1/4 or 1/3 yd of orange and cut the X as 2 separate pieces (seam vertical down the center). This left plenty for adding arm strips as you mentioned in the video. You need 3 yes of knit interfacing. I got 2 yards of stretch knit interfacing and it wasnt enough to interface the sleeves, I suggest 3 yards to be safe since is so much narrower than fabric, especially if you want to align it with the grain (which I didnt). 1/2 yd of stiff interfacing should be plenty, I got a yard cause it's so cheap (I paid 3.99 for a yard) My neck piece also had an extra inch of overhand at the top, but I just trimmed it and it was great. The X being cut in half wound up being a GREAT IDEA. It ended up making the narrow Vs on the front SUPER easy! Got both perfect on the first pass, only had some bunching near the edge from uneven pinning. If your seams looks funny, lay it inside out and use a damp press cloth to iron the seams flat (use wool or steam setting on iron, pres and wiggle it for 4 or 5 second per section of seam, also great for getting rid of dents from pins if u use pins instead of clips) I hope this helps some people!

    I can make an XS for you! I wasn't sure if people would want an XS size but I can do it. I will be gone for a week due to a convention but once I return I can modify it :) And thank you so much for watching my video! I am happy to help, especially when it comes to making Bakugou's top like 5-6 times/variations hehe. All that experience has to be put to use!

    Currently making the shirt and I cut everything the right size and used the right seam allowance for everything, but the collar and sleeves were way too big for the main torso of the shirt and had to be shortened and taken in by quite a bit. Did anyone else expirience this problem?

    You can buy a black long sleeve compression shirt and you’ll just have to add the X patterns and arm rings, as well as the buttons in the shoulders and the collar. A bit less work in my opinion but still more work than just buying the costume itself

    I personally recommend adding a zipper to the back instead of the front. Just look up a tutorial on sewing on zippers and it should be pretty easy.

    I have all my pieces cut out but does the collar need to stretch horizontally? It’s the only piece that I didn’t cut out with horizontal stretch and I’m just worried that maybe I should recut that piece

  • @StephanieStone

    @StephanieStone

    The collar piece will depend on how snug you want it against your face! It shouldn't really have to stretch so you should be fine.

    Totally 100% :) you just have to modify it a little of course; I believe reorient the top of the X a little higher, but it's essentially the same

    Just a curious question since I struggle with knits. Does this pattern work for woven if I was to add a zipper to it?

  • @StephanieStone

    @StephanieStone

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can make it work! You'd have to double check the size to make sure it fits because this was made to fit snugly with a knit so I feel like if you tried your regular size with a woven, it wouldn't fit so as long as you compensate for extra fabric and a zipper, it's possible!
