Bajio Stiltsville Sunglass Review // Violet and Green Mirror Lenses

Спорт

I've had these for a few months, and got them long before we sold Bajio glasses. I was so impressed by their low light performance on Bonefish that I put a few other guys onto them... and we all liked them so much we decided it's time to sell 'em. It just seems like saltwater fish are the ultimate test, but even low light conditions for trout I can see the bottom of the river or subsurface structure much better.
If I had to have a "2 Lens Combo" it would be a green mirror and a violet mirror lens. Green for bright conditions, violet for low light.

Love my Bajios. I think they are slowly but surely starting to catch on in the bass fishing world. Good stuff.

VERY pleased with my Baijo Vega sunglasses. My local shop carries them now and no longer carry Costa or Smith.

Wow, that's a statement there. I can see why, Bajio is excellent and they support everything in fly fishing from the IF4 to F3T and so on.

Hey Joe. I’m way to tough on sunglasses and I go through a pair or two per season. Although these seem great, they’re still kinda pricey for me. Great how to info on making color selection plus the why and where, and when to use them. Tons of useful stuff packed into your videos! Thank you.

Thanks, I cringe when I have to buy new sunglasses but I use them a heck of a lot more than any fly rod I've ever owned haha.

I love these glasses, I have a huge head, and they fit awesome, I have the blue mirrored lenses, I bought them off a friend because they were too big for him, I use them inshore fishing and they work awesome, best sunglasses I've ever owned.

How do the violet mirrors compare to the smith guide low light ChromaPop yellow lens? Do you prefer these over the rose mirror?

I haven't had that lens, I'm sure they are nearly as bright. I do know that many of our guides have jumped into the Violet Mirror and are loving it. Never heard them get excited about any other lens before so I think it's pretty damn good.

I fish (very) old (25 years?) Action Optics Amber lenses (yellow effectively) here on the NZ backcountry rivers that basically light up a river bed and everything in it...they are Polaroid but also hi contrast so anything fussing around seems to pop / stand out spectacularly from the bottom structure - would you think these Violet lenses are superior to those (glass) yellow/ amber lenses or perhaps similar?

Yes, anything 25 years newer is going to be MUCH better. They've gotten so good at building out high contrast optics. I'm very impressed by these in low light.

is your recommendation glass over poly since you only carry glass? if so, why? Thanks for the great review.

Glass is heavier, but more durable. For fly fishing specific (not biking, running, or active sports) we don't mind the heavier glasses. I know moving athletes prefer poly.

I've never had low-light or very high contrast glasses but I'm interested. I do a lot of river and lake fishing in Colorado and spend my winters on the flats in the Caribbean. I also almost never use sunglasses for day to day activities, I have pretty dark eyes and the sun never bothers me. Do peoplw not wear low-lights all the time because their eyes are sensitive? Im thinking of picking some stiltsvilles up with the purple lens but i just get nervous that they wont be functional since Puerto Rico is usually pretty sunny. But again, i really only wear glasses on the water or on snow, so they may be dark enough for me.

We were just talking about these an hour ago up in the office at Red's, I'm finding that I wear this lens in Bajio everyday, all the time. I get so much sun in the course of a year that I try to keep my eyes protected and grab this lens about 5:1 over my darker sets. I'm also finding that for everyday fishing the times I NEED better vis is in low light. When its bright... its easy with any set haha.

I agree, most lenses are too dark, I don't know why smith and Costa don't make more lighter color lenses, they are so useful for everything but the brightest glare off the water.
