I never saw Bagpuss as a child. I first saw it at the age of 21 - an adult watching a children's show, with no nostalgia from my own childhood. I still thought it was awesome! Just goes to show that, well, Bagpuss is awesome!

I was singing this while scrubbing a kettle earlier because it began to shine again 😂😂😂

I believe it was called the Sumer Canon... "Sumer is Icumin in..." It actually was the earliest discovered written piece of music that included the word "fart," or "uerteþ" in middle English.

Loved watching this as a little girl, and still do to this day. Lovely programme, adorable characters. ♥️

Never watched many of Oliver Postgate's stuff while I was a child. I'm only 27, so I was Thundercats and He-man. I remember bits of the clangers. He devoted his entire life to the happiness of children. He was a great writer and a paitient and humble film-maker. He had such talent and a great wit. I've only just begun watching his films. But I already miss him.

As a 48 year old woman, this never fails to make me cry and smile and shart.

I've just heard it for the first time in my life and this tune gives me the shivers. Lovely.

I used to love this. Takes me back to the mid 70s.

Imagine your house is really Erie, and your sleeping one night and your bagpuss Toy just goes off and this song plays.

Just fabulous. Great fun but educational at the same time. What a pity that children in the 21st century are only subjected to violent, aggressive and (usually) American rubbish. Bring this, and all the other classic 1970s children’s programmes back and let’s return to civility and pleasantness again.

this song popped into my head just now lol,last time i heard this song i was a child in the early 00s and this was on tv.

II am rewatching all of them to cheer me up. As an adult, I see a different side of the Stories. Inclusion, cooperation, etc..... I saw a documentary about Oliver he made so many wonderful Children's Progrannes, another favourate of mine was Ivor the Engine, I attribute my dragon fascination to that lol.

The mouse song is in fact based on a 13th century song titled Sumer icumen in.

is very emotional, heart warming!

most kids tv didn't - even in the 90s. Its only like 1999 when kids TV started to get crappy. E.G pingu, fireman sam, postman pat etc/
