I love how the BAFTA nominations make the Oscar race more chaotic and unpredictable now. Having watched the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards back to back, it seemed like the same movies, actors/actresses, directors, etc. were getting similar nominations and wins. At the very least, this should make things a little more interesting.

Although Oppenheimer is the masterpiece of the year, BAFTA has a way of giving the top prize to NOT the eventual Oscar winner. Poor Things was beautifully done, may very well win several awards above and below the line, and could potentially surprise for best film in this awards body.

I think it's the controversy around the male gaze that is stopping Poor Things from getting the noms

@@MsTriangle thanks for your thoughts. 1. It received 11 nominations, which is the second most after Oppenheimer. 2. Outside of the U.S., the male gaze is not seen as a bad thing. It is one of the primary foundations of both Eastern and Western art, and is anthropologically an essential element for the propagation of the human species.

Hey Luke, great vid! I recommend watching Earth Mama, one of the nominees for outstanding debut. Great little indie about the foster care system, with a powerful lead performance. Solidly in my top 10 this year so far (but I am still missing a few big ones).

I speak for me and myself only, but I'm really ok with Ruffalo And Gladstone snubbed. Gladstone esp, I would keep her in supporting instead. Greta Lee though 😢 she seems weaker by the day…

ANDREW SCOTT missing here is absolutely devastating. He’s in every frame of the film. And All Of Us Strangers was loved at BAFTA. Don’t understand this logic at all. Same with Jamie Bell being snubbed too. He is so wonderful in it. I’d say his scenes & dialogue was the most heart-wrenching.

Paul Mescal is probably my favourite actor working today. He’s doing incredible, amazing work. And while I believe All Of Us Strangers is a 4 actor ensemble... Andrew Scott is without a doubt the lead. All the other characters are there to support his character. It’s Adam’s journey. And Andrew Scott is just so beautiful in it. For him to miss is plain wrong. I wish all of them got acknowledged but Andrew definitely should have been

So do they like Flower Moon or not? No actress, no actor, no director, no screenplay, but sure, here's editing and best picture? And do they hate Andrew Scott? Because they love everything about Strangers except the lead actor? Makes no sense. Also - you just clearly see where all the jury picks are honestly when it comes to the acting categories.

Andrew Scott not nominated here is highway robbery, full stop! From how they chose their acting nominees, I think it is evident that BAFTA does not have the capacity or interest in acknowledging subtle acting this year. No Andrew Scott or Lily Gladstone is indicative of that. Instead, they went with flashier performances…. Sorry, but so lame!!

    1. Emma Stone's performance is not just the best of any category this year, but she is in the second most nominated film: Poor Things received 11 nods, just behind Oppenheimer at 13. 2. Many (but not all) are predicting a nominations snub for Margot. A nomination The Academy would be a victory.
