    Very neat build. I have bbs02 with a 13ah battery. Battery runs out pretty quick if i use throttle only. With pedal assist I'll get 35-40 miles. Throttle only maybe about 7 or 8! I have the bafang 52t chainring with 7 speed cassette. chain comes off a lot now since i changed from 44t to the 52t.

A beast at climbing! I had the option for a bigger battery but, this was my first build on a Trek 4500 26". The battery is 48v-10ah MJ1 cells work fine for very short distances then die. I should have gotten the largest amps 48v or 52v.

    Bike speed on a Mid-drive is all Math ... Do a spreadsheet where you convert One Pedal revolution x Gear Ratio (33 tooth chaining/11 sprocket rear) x Circumference of wheel (27.5" x 3.14) = 259 inches travelled per crank. (21.58 ft) Get max cadence speed of 95 RPM x 259" /12"/ft/ 5280 ft/mile x 60 min/hr = 23 MPH. MPH is for Americans. For KPH multiply by 1.609 = 37 KPH. You do spreadsheet so you can change gear sprockets numbers and wheel diameters. I bet when you're in first gear (42 tooth sprocket) you can pop a Wheelie when you crank the throttle. You could try a bigger 42 tooth chainring for more top end speed on a flat, but that creates load and heat on motor. Watch your wattage, Get above 1200 watts for a long time may burn out controller. Stock BBSO2 max rpm on throttle is @ 95. Ebay and Ali Express sells 42 tooth chainring with OFFSET @ $40 US. Lot cheaper than Lekkie Bling ring. Go with no Offset, you get chain alignment problems - 1st gear, chain slips off. Having a Left hand mirror is Smart. If there's no cars behind you, take command of the road if there's too much debris on the sides. Highly recommend a good bike bell for passing pedestrians and other bikes. Try not to go too fast, you'll scare them and give ebikes a bad reputation. Safe rides and beware of sunken manhole covers, catch the rim with a skinny tire = quick 90 degree turn = Off and Ouch.

    @@mariostomas Is the Kill Switch a Option You Installed? Bafang has the Brake Sensor & Shift Sensor to Kill the motor when used. Also, do you shift gears while using the throttle only, or is that bad for the drive train & derailleur ?

  • @mariostomas

    @mariostomas

    Жыл бұрын

    @@connicrow9463 to shift gears without damaging the drive train you have to stop the motor for a split of second. This you can be done with many ways. By stop pulling the throttle for a second , with a kill switch connected to brake sensor, by pressing the brakes (connected to brake sensors) . You can choose your way that fits to your habits. Generally the kill switch or the brake sensors are not necessary. You can change gears perfectly, only with the gear sensor and the use of throttle properly .

  • @connicrow9463

    @connicrow9463

    Жыл бұрын

    @@mariostomas I find it interesting that you as an experienced rider feel Brake Sensors aren't "generally" needed, and Gear Shift Sensors are better to protect the drive-train. Because in the Bafang kit Brake Sensors are Always Included (a Safety Standard for E-Bikes?) -- and Shift Sensors an optional buy. Most Gas Scooters / Motocycles do not have Brake Sensors; if there's a Gear Clutch it's operated w/ the left bar lever to temporarily disconnect the transmission from the motor (sort of like an E-Bike's Gear Shifter Sensor). Last question: Does your bike in the video have a Gear Shift Sensor? And are you thinking to remove the Brake Sensor + Kill Switch (to reduce bar clutter & less wiring?). Or this isn't possible as the Controller & Display will malfunction?

  • @mikaeleriksson7311

    @mikaeleriksson7311

    You pretty much have 2 options, 3 if it doesn't matter: * First is that you purchase old used 18650 batteries, a spot welder, nickel strips and a BMS (Battery Monitor Sensor) and DIY it. - Makes for a cheap option while you may not get top notch capacity, many used batteries still have a lot of charges left in them as many are changed due to bad individual cells where many are still good. Some companies also uses programmed life span so that users have to have these replaced, so you can earn big money here! * Second is buying brand new cells and DIY it - Best way to assure full capacity, and quality as you get what you pay for. Not much to say other than it's the best option since you can chose your own capacity, just make sure they can output a lot of current continously (8-10A is a good number). * Third is buying any cells and DIY it - This is not a good option since the capacity and voltage may vary between cells and can give out before it's supposed to, both power wise and life expectancy wise. This would typically be something you see in in Indian KZread videos where they aquire laptop batteries en mass and just schmush them together so that they have something to show in their videos (and probably not working for very long, off-camera). These are not cheap, but compared to buying assembled battery packs, it cheaper. Especially for when it comes to what I describe next as pre-assembled aren't made with extreme Ah since they're made to fit battery boxes of a certain size and look; As for the number of cells: That's up to you to decide. 13S (48V) or 14S (52V) (Number of cells in series), and anything from 4P (Cells in parallel) to whatever you want & can mount without it weighing down the bike of it's center of gravity. You could theoretically fill up the whole inner triangle with batteries but it would be very very heavy and susceptible to impacts/punctures unless well padded, not to mention the obvious weight, but you'd have a pretty decent battery time and a very sorry wallet. Also keep in mind the number of cells in parallel should also be taken into account when selecting a charger. You need to see the datasheets for the batteries in order to select the proper one. Most cells have a maximum of up to 2000 mA, or 2A for short, and this can be multiplied with the number of cells in parallel but never exceed this since it can make the batteries explode (Note that the BMS should prevent this, but don't take any chances!), so if you're using 15 or 20 in parallell, you might want to consider getting a 10A charger since 2A (which is usually shipped with some e-bike kits) takes about an hour to fully charge, so that divided by xx cells = long time. But, always check on the datasheet and just calculate. Just a few options to your question. And yes, by DIYing you can save a hefty sum of money. Hundreds of Dollars if nothing else.

    i use both , automatic gear shift sensor plus manual (green button) . With this way i achieve the perfect shifting up and down. If you try to change quickly the gears while pedaling, you will realize that the gear sensor alone, is not enough.

    I don’t recommend those tires if ur on a 27.5 inch wheeled bike and use the bike for commuting best I found is the shwalbe moto-x(I may have butchered their company name) I found them to be the best on wet road specially when turning they grip very well and have a very good puncture protection cause on those mountain bike tires those knobs are too hard so when cornering if u happen to go to the knobs at the edge when u get a random puddle or a metal gutter cover u can slip really bad(it happened to me on a busy roundabout) plus the gaps in between the knobs like to gather crap and sometimes sharp objects and get punctured cause those are the soft spots so my recommendation to all the diy ebike makers and riders use moto-x if ur commuting or doing delivery jobs remember it’s better to buy one good tire then replacing the inner tube every 50 miles u do..

  • @connicrow9463

    What do you mean double shift down gears one movement with only right thumb? In this video the rider is changing gears correctly. To shift lower gears (low speed up hill or starting out) he pushes thumb lever with the right thumb. And to shift to higher gears (going faster) the index finger pulls back the rear lever. And he's letting off the left thumb throttle motor just before any shifting to not damage the drive train.
