BAF 2024: Soma - Enner
Ғылым және технология
At Buchla And Friends 2024, Sonic State caught up with Kevin at the Soma booth to find out more about the Enner synthesizer, which, due to increasing popularity, Soma have been ramping up production. The synth boasts a psychedelic aesthetic and excels at generating noisescapes while also offering the flexibility for melodic performances via its (we think copper) touch pads.
Enna is slightly reminiscent of the Lyra synthesizer, but with a pulse output section and a built-in piezo microphone, activated by a large pad. The Enner has a delay line with feedback and time controls for the left and right lines, and Kevin demonstrated the Bizarre Control which adds pseudo random modulation to the delay line leading to some screamy noise textures. The touchplates respond to touch, and Kevin even demonstrated the use of a metal scouring pad to create some crunchy tones. Enner can also be used as an external effects processor, to add some strange to your incoming signal.
Enner Price: 799 USD

Bought a b-stock Enner from Perfect Circuit recently because I thought they were ceasing production. Love my Enner to bits and I don't even use it purely for noise. Glad to see they're going back into production!
Sounds like a circuit bent fire alarm after a grease fire at the crematorium.
Soma always so inviting and enjoyable. Smiling just to see it.
Great video, great company!
1st~! 3:03 sound demo. Interesting and unusual user interface! it is a Rorschach test for the ears...

At one point I heard a bee being subjected to waterboarding.
Oof, I wish he would've get his hand closer to the bottom more, kept that filter a little more closed, it sounds so harsh and bandpassy in the middle there. I have a feeling that this thing can very likely sound very warm and wide and interesting, as well. It's not for me at $800 though, that's for sure.
keep up hard work bro
What is V2?

He didn’t mention it but they added an input jack on the left oscillator; supposedly to clock it but you can get cool effects running a square wave into it - the pads on that side become divisions of that input.
It was funny when Nick said "seems a bit niche" and they guy quietly packed away his scourer. Looks cool as an FX processor, just wish the faceplate was metal, wood even screen printed and not just raw pcb.
I’ll never understand why Sonicstate or the instrument/effect manufacturer doesn’t say “ok, we are filming a 15min video, everyone clear the table and here’s full demo access for just those handful of minutes.” Instead, there’s people video bombing or in this case, we can’t get a full demo because someone is playing with the Lyra?? These demos are so incredibly important for the manufacturers, because it’s what sells to 99% of the audience. The people at NAMM demoing in person have to be a fraction of a percent.

..sorry to bitch about it so much. Guess I needed to get it out.
Can brands, please please plese, start bringing musicians to demo their products instead of the people that created them? I know this devide, I've played it, and I LOVE it. But this demo is seriously painful to watch. It's impossible to understand how the product works, what it does, it's not nice sounding and it's definitely no inspiring at all. It's really sad imho.

With only 5 minutes to walk through its feature set there’s not much time left to play it!

@@noiseg33k you know you can find amazing demos/showcases under 5min that are amazing, engaging and fun. It’s fine to criticise brands when they don’t do a good job. It helps them improve. No need to applaud absolutely everything they do. I’m a big SOMA fan myself.
Minblowingly crass. Where chique meets shat. Niche?
Man, they need someone better to demo this machine. I know they sound great but this guy did not do it justice at all.
