Badminton - Backhand Cross-Court Net Shot (net drop)

Спорт

This an advanced shot for players who have a strong grasp of the fundamentals. The Backhand Cross-Court Net is not a shot that is played often in top level badminton. It is, however, extremely useful on the rare occasion when a player is in position to take control over the net and finds the opponent’s cross-court net area open. This shot has several advantages in that the opponent has to deal with a laterally moving shuttle close to the net, thereby making a net shot and lift more difficult to control. Additionally, if executed perfectly, it can deceive the opponent into thinking you are going to play a straight shot, when in fact the plan is to move it cross-court. This of course causes confusion in the opponent.

    Omg! Best explanation of this shot in youtube! It takes dedication and effort to make this kind of video. So much details and info. You covered all parts of this shot. Most youtube tutorials are not as detailed as yours, this has so much depth. Thank you! Keep going on making videos like this. 🙂

    Liked and subscribed! I've just watched all of your videos and they're great >> really clear and detailed instructions broken down in a manner that's easy to absorb. Might you consider making a video on what to focus on in singles so as to correctly time the split step? It's difficult to know whether to watch the shuttle, the opponent or their racket, as it's beyond my abilities to focus equally on all three at once.

    Hi Max, thanks for your kind words. Very much appreciate it. I have lots of ideas and yes this is one of the areas I want to cover. Can I suggest in the meantime, try picking a point in space between the shuttle and the player and don’t over focus on either the player or the shuttle. Your peripheral vision catches movement. And when you play, don’t stress too much. I would recommend watching videos of Bruce Lee. When he’s about to fight he looks down because he can catch movement from more angles with his peripheral vision. I’ll do my best to address Themis very important skill you’ve identified.

    @@PritPachu Thanks! That's great advice >> should I be positioning my head in a normal neutral position (as opposed to looking upwards, as usually happens when I'm focusing on the shuttle)? One other request would be a video on the high forehand serve >> I've never been able to hit a really good one so the shuttle is dropping vertically near the backline. My big problem is releasing the shuttle consistently in the right place at the right time.

  • @PritPachu

    @PritPachu

    Max Renn yes keep in a neutral position. In fact, practice looking around and not over focusing at all. Thereby training to see the shuttle with the rods and not the cones. Just took this from internet which you can look into more deeply in terms of seeing movement, “The retina also contains the nerves that tell the brain what the photoreceptors are "seeing." There are two types of photoreceptors involved in sight: rods and cones. Rods work at very low levels of light. ... Cones require a lot more light and they are used to see color.”

    @@PritPachu That makes perfect sense, in that one needs to track the movement of shuttles being sent in unexpected directions >> focusing intently on the shuttle has seldom served me well in these situations. One other question for you: when scissor-kicking, you seem to be bringing your racket leg round to the front much more than I do >> is this just a case of raising the racket-leg knee after jumping, causing the added rotation, or are there other factors to consider? Looking forward to your next video!
