Went to St john's many years ago in a Britania from RAF transport command. Although St john's was in Canada we were still nearer to UK than our final destination in Canada.
Hi fellas....I am a long retired AC pilot off all the airbus types they had and I can tell you (in a humorous sense) that the weather depicted in this YYT Torbay landing is actually a "beautiful" day compared to how really nasty this place gets!! We usually default the St.John's landings for the Captains. Fabulous video and tremendous example of CRM.

The pilot in the seat 2 position is one of the smartest I've seen so far.
That's one experienced pilot in the right seat, love the history lesson.

The check pilot in the right seat. He should be leading a country. Not just landing in one. So articulate and thoughtful.

He’s excellent. There’s a video with him on a oceanic crossing where he explains so much about that flight.
No matter how often I watch videos such as this one, the sheer competence of the aircrew always amazes me.
Amazes me that this video was around 2010 and the advanced in glass cockpit was already far ahead what airplanes used back then. Love those old Jeppesen charts, that’s what I learned my instruments with but so grateful we have iPads as ebags! Nice vids JP
Great flight….. a history lesson too! Thanks very much!!!
I see a lot of experience with the captain and the other pilot, respect!
I loved this episode!!! Well done Captains. Cheers 🥂
that pilot in right seat is amazing .. hows he rememeber all that? amazing .. yes i agree .. he should be the leader of a country .. kudos to Air Canada .. top notch crew here
Great flight, and enjoyed the pilots description of events
Love these cockpit videos and especially this one with the friendly pilot sitting right side. Love Newfoundland and learned something new about it being an independent country prior to WWII. Also enjoyed the explanation by the Captain of the flight plan and the checks.

clever boys Thank you so much for posting.loved the history lesson too keep safe xx
Windscreen wiper technology, far behind the cockpit . Amazing. Thank you…..totally informative.
Enjoyed this one which brought back memories. I flew A320 across Europe in the early 1990s. I can tell the check Captain has some experience!
I watch many of these aviation videos from all over the world. It's pretty cool to see one flying into my hometown! Thank you. Very entertaining video.
Being a history major I absolutely loved the copilots detailed history discussion of Newfie and Lab. The best is when he mentions al Capone smuggling booze of all things when discussing at St. Pierre and micqelone hahah!!!! That is hilarious!

I admire this pilot he has so much knowledge God bless him and the pilot that landed the plane.
Good job!
Was on Trans Canada Airways propellered starting in 1955 to St.Johns that had to stop and refuel in Halifax from YYZ
St. John's has had a CAT 3 ILS for a few years now. I noticed that he enabled it with the two Autopilots but decided to land as CAT 1 when the runway was visible far enough out for CAT 1. Weather here changes quickly. 27 was dry as they passed over PEI.
Perfectly executed flight.
Glad to see him hand fly the approach.
Nice one!

I live in Cornwall PEI, just outside Charlottetown… my oldest son also got his glider and private pilots license through the Air Cadet program, and he did his training in Debert NS(Glider) and Moncton NB(PPL) he also helped run the glider program at Slemon Park Summerside PEI in the spring and fall. The best weather is usually around the end of June to mid-July. If you want to rent a car make your reservation months in advance on a card that the rental companies respect.
@jwaustinmunguy

You can make that trip in two days but it would be exhausting and you'd need to time the ferry perfectly. Plan for four days. Port aux Basques to St John's is a very hard drive for one day. The ferry is six hours in good weather and often longer. From upstate NY you might consider I-90 to I-95 to New Brunswick for the cheaper gas and possibly shorter. With the fifth wheel we'd cross the Island in three or four days and probably spend a month on the road to get to Ottawa.

@@jwaustinmunguy it’s def on my bucket list John but I do realize it would be a very tough drive but the scenery I’m sure is fantastic especially in the late spring or fall with the changing of colors. Ideally I want to check out Montreal and Quebec City first which are both on the way so I would def make a couple weeks vacation or more out of it especially with driving instead of flying. We have good flights to Toronto from here but to Quebec City and St. John’s it is extremely expensive like the cost of a cross country trip or more which is weird but they don’t have any good flight paths from upstate to those places for some reason even tho they are way closer than the layovers you need to take first
Must be OE. Captain in right seat is awesome
Looks like they could use some RainX on those windshields.

The right seat pilot must be a Line Check Airman either giving an annual line check to the left seat pilot or doing captain initial operating experience with him. Generally the only time you will see two captains on the flight deck.
As everyone said, that is one awesome pilot in seat 2.

Canada does not have an airline that gives one flying crap about a customer that had to cancel because of a spouse that had had to cancel due to a diagnosis found out after booking. This is true with both Air Canada and especially Westjet.
@747-pilot
2 жыл бұрын
That is Canada for you in general. Not just airlines. You have these HUGE monopolies everywhere, and so they have no competition (like in the United States). So they can “give the shaft” to the customer with no consequences whatsoever!
