To be fair, he could easily have used her to sing every one of those notes. Whitney in her prime could belt like no other and what sets her apart from everyone else is that she sustained those belts from start to finish on pitch perfectly. There’s a reason why she’s The Voice.

@@bromoboy for most tenors, a C#5 is the highest their chest voice will go. C5 is still a tough note for females in their chest voice. Whitney makes it look easy to project and support that note as well as she does.

I know it's probably easy for most of you to recognize all these divas, but as a non pop aficionado, I would be super thrilled if these clips each had a subtitle of who the person is singing, maybe also the song title and year if known.... I can't be the only one who doesn't recognize a non-blonde Celine Dion from 30 years ago, or some random member of a girl group, or a contestant on a talent show I've never heard of, but some of these artists I'd definitely go look up if I knew their names!

I personally feel that some of the ones that sound throatier/scratchier get hype because it sounds like an artistic choice, at least to me. With practise or on a good day the singers listed in the video will probably not have an issue with open belts. At the end of phrases sometimes I prefer to hear a little bit of texture in the voice, instead of a clear open sound all the time. I do it on purpose myself, but I guess one might call it a wrong artistic choice and healthy technique should prevail 😅 but I like how certain singers sound when they sound "throaty", and I find that imperfection sometimes adds more colour to the song. Also I think it would get a little boring if singers sounded perfect and clear all the time. That's what I think :)

I think you should consider the fact that not everyone wants to do a chesty belt stylistically. So saying someone has a bad belt when they aren’t even trying to belt isn’t exactly fair. A lot of the examples here were people using different placements to get a particular sound and style not necessarily a show-stopping belt.
