Took a break from writing Tangled: The Series/Varian and the Seven Kingdoms fan songs in order to cover one! (Putting my own little Dani spin on it, which included transposing it from A Minor to F# Minor and futzing with the melody because I DO NOT HAVE RRF Sings's RANGE.) This was my very first time orchestrating a song that isn't mine, and I had a blast. I am so incredibly happy with how it turned out. This is a fantastic piece of music, and I hope I was able to do it justice. Scroll down to the orchestration notes section if you want to know more about the arrangement.

♫ ORCHESTRATION NOTES ♫
This song follows Varian's season 1 journey, and I wanted the arrangement to reflect that. The orchestrations are almost entirely string-based, but I wanted the stringed instruments to evolve as the song grows more epic. Though the harp is present throughout the entirety of the song, the base accompaniment goes from classical guitar, to acoustic guitar, to electric guitar as the intensity grows.
Another conscious instrument shift was in the pitched percussion - a glockenspiel, which to me feels lighter and happier, comes in in the second verse, but it switches to chimes by the end of the second chorus, which are lower and more ominous-sounding, in order to signify a shift into a darker tone. The horn in the second verse is used to represent the hope Rapunzel brings to Varian, and the violin and cello that come in and out during the first verse represent the "whispers of the town" mentioned in the lyrics.
In case you're curious, the instruments used are: piano, harp, violins (pizzicato), violin, cello, contrabass, horn, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, glockenspiel, chimes, concert bass drum, cymbal, and a drumset! Which I think makes this piece my most ambitious arrangement yet!! I'm not normally this detailed about my arrangements, but I couldn't resist for this one as I'm so happy with it.

This is beautiful. This song does really work for Varian. If it wasn’t a cover I would think it’s an original song. Edit: I see that it was a fan song written for Varian just by a different fan
This is amazing. Somehow in this version I can imagine between end of season 2 and beginning of season 3 where Corona is taken by Saporians, Varian is wandering around palace. Looking through window at kingdom and his village, then at his reflection, questioning himself and decisions, while remembering his past, his mistakes, harsh judgement towards him, father's lack of support and compassion. Then he stops next royal family portrait, looking at Rapunzel, remembering their first meeting, good times and interactions until to the faithful day. He starts arguing with himself, blaming Rapunzel, accusing "using him through fake friendship" until he looks at his reflection, this time on broken window, finally admiting that it's his fault and broke in tears, mumbling apologies to Rapunzel. What do you think?

This just makes me cry for Varian and this point.If Varian said this to Rapunzel she better cry or i'll take Varian's side
A beautifully heartbreaking song about Varian and Rapunzel’s friendship estrangement in Season 1 and the pain Varian's feeling over losing his father to the amber. The Season 1 betrayals on both sides are truly heartbreaking. 😔
I remember loving this song so much that i would sing it at recess. Now i love it even more i'm gonna sing it in class 😌

I got SO excited when I saw this! Ahhhh great cover!!! I love that you made your own instrumental too! There were certain little instrumental moments that reminded me of slippery slope and that was so cool to hear in this song!
I hadn't listened to this song in ages, and yet listening to this cover I realized I still know the lyrics and I'm singing along 😅 Your voice is so good.
