About this visit:
They arrived Superior WI BNSF dock May 20, 2024 at 13:10 to load Iron Ore.
Sometime during the load they determined they had a hull breach that needed repair. At 19:00 they departed Superior, heading across the lake to the Duluth Entry for Port Terminal Dock 2 to get the puncture in the bow repaired. They pulled into Duluth at 19:55, coming in at 5 kts. They arrived at Port Terminal at 20:44. May 24 at 21:56 with the hole fixed, they pulled out of Port Terminal dock, departed Duluth, heading back to the BNSF dock to finish loading their ore. They pulled into the BN-5 dock May 25 at 00:20. They finished loading the ore, tried to depart the dock at 14:35, and ran aground! They were stuck at the dock until May 26, at 12:00, the water level must have gone up ore the Missouri tug got them pulled off the high spot grounding them. Either way, they then departed Superior, too a North turn toward Duluth, sat in the lake for many hours, most likely getting their hull inspected by the USCG, before they were allowed to depart heading to Nanticoke Ontario to deliver this troublesome cargo!

In 2003 or 2004,I worked for a company called Atlantic Industrial Cleaners in Dartmouth Nova Scotia Canada, and myself and my co workers got assigned to go to a pier on the Halifax side and there was the Atlantic Huron. We had to go to the double bottom and clean with degreaser all the rat holes as the guys called them, from the keel, all the way back to the stern. I didn't know that she was still around. Nice to see her, hopefully they can repair the damage.

My pleasure! I actually felt bad for them on this trip! When she was grounded leaving the dock, I just could not believe it!
Busted nose, hole in the hull, grounding and a horn that doesn't work, I think I'll send this video to Lower Lakes Towing.

indeed!
Why did they have to go the long way around instead of just going straight through the harbor?

I asked that question as well, I did not get an answer. Seems like the long hard way was the easy way?
Good job.

The, Atlantic Huron looks run down, and horn sounds sick. The, Bow,looks like Marcia Brady's nose(from The Brady Bunch)in the late 1960's. Now, she has a hole. What's next? 4:20

It is a costly adventure to build a new vessel for sure, Maintenance costs don't seem so bad now do they? 😁
Didn't this just happen to another boat as well? What's going with this? Age possibl?
