This is a classic example of why we always test powers and grounds on a fuel pump with a low fuel pressure problem.

Rules of governing on parallel= adding another resistance on a parallel circuit, increases total current flow...it seems this is what's happening here, pump alone it will good when you add head lamps another load, ground path can't handle anymore due to current increases making the shared ground thats already loose or corroded gets hot, temperature affects current flow and this is the example.

Old Ford Truck had starting problem. Somehow the headlight switch is tied into the ignition system. Replacement of light switch fixed all the weird crap that was going on. 35 years ago so I don't remember how I figured that one out. Crazy things can happen.

Although the bad ground title of the video explains it well, to be honest that would not have been my first thought. Just like headlights dim when a starter is used with a weak battery, the fuel pump may get less juice when lights test a weak battery, too. And this might be a first clue with a failing alternator, where the alternator can't keep up with high demand. I remember limping home one cold winter night like this with a bad alternator. Those wise enough to do further testing might show another clue, like voltage drop on the ground line. The bad ground could mess up alternator charging, so I can see how the unwary might get a new alternator by mistake! The take home message is not to have tunnel vision. It makes me wonder why some are so quick to call the alternator bad, without drop testing each side.

Just wire in a secondary fuel pump and tie it into the headlight switch, that way when you turn on the headlights it kicks on your secondary pump and makes up for the lost power, easy peasy
