Eric, I just received my Astro Onyx 1822 Nano 1/2" impact a couple days ago and I just love that thing! I used it for the first job yesterday replacing the stock upper camber arms with new adjustable camber arms on a 93 300ZX Convertible and it was small enough to get in there and I did not have to use a manual ratchet at all. It made the job so easy. The IR 231c would never have fit in all those places to get all the nuts and bolts. Your channel is awesome and I have learned a lot but the exposure to your great taste in tools is putting a strain on my tool budget as I am spending a lot more on tools now. Oh well, who ever dies with the most tools wins. I am gonna pick up the Astro 1128 3/8 mini air ratchet next week. Keep up the great work. I have watched all your videos twice.

You have my ratchet! I've owned it 16 years now. The thing broke right out of the gate, so it sat in my toolbox for almost 10 years before I finally remembered to bring it to work one day and have the Snap-On guy replace it. It's been used almost daily for the past 6 years, and never misses a beat. :) I had a bad motor mount in my '72 El Camino for years. Every time I'd leave from a stop, about 1,000 feet up the road, I'd get a big THUD as the engine came back down on the mount (when I finally let up on the pedal, lol). It had completely separated from the engine. Probably put 40k miles on it like that, and only fixed it for the guy who bought it. :D Oh, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and the family! CHEERS

I had a 68 Fairlane for two years in high school (84-85), and for nearly all the time I had it there was one broken motor mount. Every time I'd put it in gear and put my foot to the floor, the engine would twist and crimp the throttle linkage. As you can imagine, the car would have a mind of its own at that point and the only option to free the linkage was to shut off ignition. My friends got a real kick out of it. Incidentally, those were some tough motor mounts on the Fairlane considering how much abuse it took with a broken one.

I tested mounts on 07 impala. As soon as it was put in drive, the engine moved/torqued A LOT. Did not even have to press the gas to see it was moving way too much. Symptom was vibration going down the road especially at certain speeds, 51 mph in this case. Already had tires rotated and balanced and did not fix. There are six mounts in a kit for impala. Some for motor, others for transmission. Thanks for posting.

You should have seen my 94 Taurus. You didn't have to guess. You could watch it clunk around in the engine compartment like a rock rolling around in there. Ford in their genius decided to give it a rubber mount filled with hydraulic fluid, which rotted away the rubber containing it. Was totally gone. When I saw it (while examining something else) I was like, so THAT'S why I have an exhaust leak. Engine was ripping the exhaust up!

My son had a Neon. Don’t remember the year. Brought it in to the tire center to replace the motor mounts. They bought some cheap Chinese ones to put in and they both went bad. Had them replaced under their warranty. Car still made an odd noise. Looked up the appropriate video for the motor mounts and found there was a third mount under the battery box. I changed that one. Car still made an odd noise upon acceleration but otherwise ran fine.

I just went thru this with my 2008 Lucerne. I honestly thought it was a problem with the transmission hard shifting. I also noticed that I felt every small bump in the road (I had replaced my struts a bit ago because they were bad). I figured my tranny was going and that I just had poor quality struts. Took it to trans shop and they found the engine mount bad. I guess you learn something every day right? I felt dumb - but I am not a mechanic by trade but like to do all the work (if possible) on my cars. This one just slipped by me. Runs great now. I guess with the broken mount, Any suspension vibration was amplified because of the lose engine. No more "hard shifts", Runs very nice now.

I’m having this same problem. Thought the same thing you did, bad trans. But my car was vibrating more than normal and I keep having a hard clunk between 1st and 2nd gears and clunking when I would come to a stop. Had someone get in the car and put it in reverse and park back and forth and sure enough the engine moved very visibly back and forth forward and back. So I think my mount (dogbone) the one in the middle underneath is the bad one.

Before your day, GM modified the driver side motor mount on their V8s. The mount would tear and the engine lifted up so the fan hit the shroud. The fix was a 1/4" cable wrapped around the upper part of the mount then connected to a lower mount bolt. If the mount broke you'd never notice it. At the time a fairly well known bandage.

It's almost 1 am so I will test this out tomorrow on my 2004 Ford Expedition. My upper radiator hose keeps blowing off and I tried new thermostat , new upper hose, new coolant cap, flushed the radiator several times....But was wondering if my motor mounts are in need of replacement and that's why my upper hose keeps popping off.??? The first time it happened was when I really stepped into it in-order to get up to highway speed. Maybe that was when the mount or mounts failed enough for the first time. The engine will run for weeks at proper temperature and then she'll pop again... Never overheats either...just keeps blowing the upper hose...Hmmmm... Great Video

Mine is a making a noise to, first shop I took my car to told me it was the lower arms, and the second guy at a different shop said it was my motor mounts, he did the same test that you showed on your video when you put it on drive, it did had some movement, all along I thought it was normal on most cars. Second I wish you could show the or compare the new motor mount next to the new motor mount for us to see the difference. All and all great video. Btw cool pencil like flash light. Thumbs up! Ev1 keeps talking about not removing that bracket. I'm guessing that locator pin and more than that, the stud has to go thru that bracket also has changed the game , to make it necessary to remove it now. I've changed that front one on older buick before without having to do more than remove the nuts and support the engine but not on a lucerne. Aggravating the way those mounts don't hold up. Excellent repair video as always and Happy Thanksgiving to all the SMA crew !

Nice one Dr. O. We won't mind if you put out videos you have already done before, ie changing brakes, cv shafts. Each model must have little variances to getting er done. Happy Thanksgiving!

When I do motor mounts. I only use O.E. mounts. Aftermarket mounts can make an engine vibrate like hell.

That was a nicely separated engine mount! I think I still prefer the high-mounted mounts from the older GM V6s, though. Call me crazy if you like~ Have a great Thanksgiving, Eric! :D

Be careful with those engine mount brackets. I've managed to arc on the starter and practice some welding. I've changed many of these mounts and sometimes it happens haha
