we learn where the uncle's job fell apart in s1. Remember at the birthsday party when they talked how richie didnt answer the phone for the business and it turned out that cicero kept giving the wrong number (michaels) instead of richie?s.

Lee is their step dad, not an uncle. We know dad hasn't been around since Carmy was very young, but they haven't confirmed whether he died or just took off on the family.
