Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha Gonna Do When They Come For You?"- Inner Circle 1987
I was about to leave for Midem, the international music industry convention held every January in Cannes France, to shop masters of rock groups I was working with. Roger and Ian Lewis, founding members of the Miami/Jamaican Reggae band Inner Circle asked me if I would shop their new demo. At that time Inner Circle had a deal with an American record company but the band owned their world rights and they were available to make their own distribution deals worldwide. One notable song on their demo was their new song Bad Boys. (this is that recording.) Two years later a new version of the song Bad Boys would become the enduring theme of the hit Fox TV show Cops and the companies that passed on the song belong in the same club with all the record executives that passed on the Beatles and Rolling Stones. The pictures in this clip capture Inner Circle at an interesting point in their career, they worked hard to keep the band Inner Circle together after Jacob Miller died and later in life the band would experience a world wide comeback, crossing all musical boundaries.
I was told someone in Europe released the demo I was shopping for Roger and Ian and one of the producers of Cops who was a fan of reggae music first heard the song Bad Boys in Europe in the 80s. If that was true he probably heard one of the many demo tapes of Inner Circle that I handed out at Midem. That makes me feel as if I might have played a part, not in the success of Cops, but in bringing Reggae Music into the homes of millions nightly...Ken Geringer...
