Here is a little mower story for you. I work on small engines out of my garage, and a guy called me one day,said he heard of me through a friend. He said he just bought a $10,000 plus Scag Zero turn,and it stalled in his back yard as he was mowing. It was Saturday and he wanted me to come get it and fix it ,if it was something that wont effect warrantee. We discussed the warantee thing and I told him I cannot work on it while it is under warrantee. But he said come get it. So I loaded my trailer with winch and headed to his house. When I got there ,he told me he was not happy that this mower quit on the 1st or 2nd time he mowed( I cant recall) but the mower was weeks old from purchase. I told him ,,I dont believe I want to work on it,,but lets go take a look at it. Did I mention he was not happy> lol So we walked across the yard and around the corner,,,and his mower was sitting between 2 hedge rows in his yard. And here is how the story ends!! As I got 20 ft from it,,I stopped and said. I know whats wrong with it!!! (I have good vision. ) I heard him say ,,,,What? I walked up to the mower and hid from him what I did,,,but it took 1 second!!!! (I fixed it) Then I said ,go ahead and start it!!! He looked at me like I was crazy ! He cranked the mower and it started!!! He went from being mad ,,,to what kind of witchcraft is going on here!! The engine has a fuel pump pulse line connected to the valve cover,,it came off as he mowed thru the bushes!! I seen the small hose hanging loose as I walked up to the mower. If the line is not attached ,,no fuel!!

That is funny, in the past I have bought pieces of equipment that they say won’t run put gas in them and they fire right up. They definitely need gas to run lol.
I have a 61inch cut ferris mower that i have had for ten years so far, with all wheel suspension that I use to cut my place. Don't know how many acres I cut, But takes about 5 hours to mow, Never had any problems.I like it a lot.

Thank you, it was a lot of work but we do what we can to help others and I thought it was neat with all the data that we received. Sometimes it’s hard to get partial opinions on Equipment these days with all the sponsorships, etc. when we work with a company we pride ourselves and being honest and impartial.
I just bought a bad boy rogue because I was so impressed with the mower deck and the suspension the whole mower was well thought out and designed 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I bet you love it David, that rogue was a sweet riding mower for sure!
Ferris 100% satisfaction! ❤️ I've had my Ferris ISX 800 for about a couple weeks and put 10 hours on it. I have a very rough yard with lots of obstacles. It takes about 2.5 hours to cut it all. The suspension makes the job much easier and I feel, after a session, just like I felt when I started it. 👍 Had one issue. One of two air filter cover thumbscrews got lost when it came loose. Dealer gave me a couple FOC. 👍 The suspension is not perfect at speed but it's way way better than a solid system, which I've endured for 6 years here. My only issue, due to me, is that I can easily chew up the grass when maneuvering around trees on soft ground. The Ferris has plenty of traction. Fine when you use a fwd and rev technique. I'm very pleased with the engineering, ease of maintenance, and access on the Ferris, and I'm an engineer! $10k well worth spending. My last mower for sure!

We checked out the Ferris mowers, and they look like an awesome machine. They are definitely comfortable as well!
Use to take 8 man hours to mow our place with a cub cadet zero turn and a gravely tractor. Looked at many brands. At one dealership they were so busy that the mechanic came out to work with us on selecting a mower. I learned more from him than any sales person. They sold Ferris, Scag, Toro and Grasshopper. This was in the fall and I ended up buying their Ferris demo/loaner with less than 100 hours (IS3200). Cut our mowing time down to 3.5 hours ….. so now we mow more areas at 5 hours. Does not beat me up. Used to be I could hardly walk after mowing but with the Ferris I can continue doing other chores. Around 300 hours the left hydro unit leaked oil due to a leaking seal. Covered under warranty. Took two trips to fix due to putting in the wrong seal but corrected. Dealer picked up and delivered mower each time and had a loaner while waiting for the correct seal. Great customer service. I now use them for multiple small engine repair and all my Stihl purchases. Baum Powersports in Chester Ohio. Wonderful dealer!!!

Service like that will not only keep you coming back but draw others in as well through your recommendations. That is the type of dealer we are looking to work with moving forward. The Ferris mowers definitely are nice and being able to not be sore or beat up afterwards as a huge bonus as it makes you more productive in other areas as well.
2 months ago, I purchased a Bad Boy Maverick HD. I did my research, and after talking with a couple friends that run commercial grass cutting businesses, it came down to Scag or Bad Boy. As a bonus, the local dealer was running a special, buy the mower, and get a free Bad Boy weedeater and manual mulch flap for the mower. I have about 7.5 hrs on the mower, so far so good. The weedeater is amazing. I own 2 high end Echos, and the Bad Boy is my new favorite.

I think Ferris has the best suspension but I haven't been on a lot of others. I have a 60" Exmark lazerZ. The e-series. It's been really good to me. The only issue I've had was when I was mowing a forest floor and a stick broke a small hydro cooling fan. It behaved just like your Husky did when hot. When I figured it out, I bought a new fan blade and changed the hydro oil on it, and it has taken me 2500 hours so far with zero sign of giving up. I have a fairly bumpy area of the lawn that is pretty jaring, but the suspension seat sorts that out pretty well. It's a rugged well built work horse mower with not to many frills. I'll be keeping it.
I have a 2016 Badboy Maverick with a 60" deck. We love it so much we just bought a 2024 Maverick today. We have a huge property to mow, so we just cut our mowing time in half. For the price point and the quality, its hard to beat a Badboy.

I had a several year old Gravely ZT X 42 with Kawasaki and it was really good. I made the mistake of getting the 2024 Gravely ZTX 42. There’s something very wrong with the deck. It spews debris/grass/leaves etc out the front and also non-shoot side. It’s really awful. I sold it after just 1 season. I got a 2024 Cub Cadet fab with Kawasaki and MUCH MUCH better and works how it should. I didn’t expect the grass to not get torn up from back tires like the Gravely did but is a bonus. Such a bummer about the Gravely but lesson learned

Bad Boys gas handheld is made by Maruyama and their battery handheld is made by Greenworks. Their tractors are made by TYM. Their side by sides are made by Hisun. All Bad Boy makes are mowers and implements.
I have driven Scag since 95 and the mower I bought in 1995 still mows 2 yards a week never had anything but normal tires belts batteries. I bought a new Turf Tiger in 2012 gave the old on to the kids. Both mowers use the same spindles and I have a new spindle on the shelf but have never replaced on either mower. The joy of good parts. Never welded or broke either one. If you want tough get a Turf Tiger they are a tank. I mow a farm barn yards drive ways and house yard I am not easy mowing.

congrats to you for doing lots of homework it will payoff in the long run. I can't speak to what brand to buy as my son is an Ex Mark dealer but I'll say this, where you buy it and how well they back their product means more than the manufacture of a zero turn mower.

Like I commented before. I love my BadBoy. You have to figure out what fits you. I have a Gravely dealer 4 miles from And bought the BadBoy from a dealer 20 miles away. Glad I did. Like I said before 4 years and zero regrets. It’s up to you and what you think is good for you. I knew Scag was the best but the dealership close by wasn’t very nice. It was like I was wasting his time. I mow my 5 acres once a week for 4 years and no problems. I would suggest to buy an extra belt. So you don’t have to run to the dealer to get one. Also use the seat belt and make sure to use the roll bar. Watch out for low hanging limbs. Great video on the mowers it was very informative. Love y’all and have a great weekend. 👋

I have a gravely pro master 260 with a 27 hp Kawasaki engine. Bought it new in 2011 and it has 890 hrs on it and it has been basically problem free. A bolt fell off the drive pulley and I had to replace the bolt and pulley last 27:34 summer and had the mechanic put new belts on and that’s the first set of belts I have ever replaced, still had plenty of life left in them. Thank you, as you know, the technology and these mowers has come along way. The difference between suspension and no suspension blew my mind.

@hardworkingmanoutdoors

I have looked for used but it seems most of the used units around here have several thousand hours in them and they still want quite a bit for them. Trailsport motors did have a nice low hours used Spartan mower for a good price but we didn’t really like the Spartan.
I bought a Kioti commercial 60" machine 3 years ago. Briggs motor grenaded at 65 hours with no warning. Dealership gave me a loaner and had mower back in a couple months. I think it's a good value machine, has heavy duty components and honestly I've watched a bunch of videos, most of these mowers are nearly the same thing, but it's more about where you'll get your service when it breaks down.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors

The dealership is huge! Glad they took care of you.
You did more research than anyone else I've heard of, I'm very aware of the fact lawnmowers are pricey, I don't think a lot people take in consideration the amount of grass area they have, what of mower do they need and how much money can they afford, I think the size of the cutting path should be first then motor hp,how much gas does it hold, then price, I think my choice is bad boy ,72 in cut,large motor, full capacity, price
@hardworkingmanoutdoors

I only mow my lawn, just over an acre. I bought a Bobcat by Textron back in 2000 when there weren't many zero turns around. At the time it was overkill for what I needed and at a price of 6000.00 back then was a lot. The mower is still running strong. My advice is to over buy for your needs. Bobcat Textron has since been bought by Doosan and offer it under the Bobcat that we all know in the orange and white. Not sure what I would buy today but the Dealer rating would probably be weighted the heaviest in my decision with machine performance being second. Great video series! Thx!

Hey Heath. Great reviews. In addition to my firewood hobby business I also have a landscape maintenance business. I don’t have any experience with Bad Boy mowers so I can’t comment on them. Of the other mowers you mentioned, both Scag and Hustler would be my top choices. I run 2 Hustler Super Z mowers and they are tanks. The suspension seats give a great cushioned ride. I have a rough yard about 5acres big but I love this thing and can cut it in 2.5 hours vs 8hr with a rotary cutter. Great review so far

Great job on the video. You should test a Kubota if they have on in your area. Really, any high end commercial mower is going to be well built. Kubota has a diesel zero turn that I wanted but that was really expensive for a homeowner but it would out last me!

If you want to "float" even more, install a set of tweels. Take a hard look at the Exmark mowers. I don't know anything about the Radius models, but the Lazer Z's are comfortable and solid - doesn't rattle, seems well balanced.

Absolutely go with a commercial mower. I have a Ariens zenith 60in. Iwas told it's a low end commercial mower. It has the commercial kawasaki fx730v and 3100 hydro gears. And I've had it for almost 4 years and not a issue.

There have been a lot of great reports about the Ariens brand. We checked them out along with their brother the gravely.
I mowed commercially for 25 years. I never found a brand that cut better than Exmark. I’ve used Ferris, JD, Wright, Kubota, Cub Cadet (junk!), Toro, Ariens, Husqvarna (junk!), and a few “home owner” brands. Exmark is number one, followed by JD. The Kubota diesel engines last a long time, but the cut quality is not up to par with the best, IMO.

We purchased a homeowner John Deer Z425 54 Inch about 7 years ago, it still has the original belts and only the second battery (always attach a battery maintainer after mowing). Day of delivery the store manager delivered it, he noticed it was not set up correctly, he took it back for complete make ready. Returned with the mower perfectly set up. Since then, we purchased a Kubota L3301 HST tractor, it is an awesome tractor and dealer service bar none. My wife can even mow with it being HST drive. If we ever need to replace the John Deer, I will most definitely be looking at Kubota zero turns. Kubota KTAC insurance cover our equipment bumper to bumper at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the work and videos, I know this problem, anyone who buys these types of things knows and has these problems! I just bought a new zero turn, a John Deere. Here's why I buy Deere. I just went on their website and looked at the parts diagrams for the zero I bought and just about every part can be bought. I recommend people look on the manufacturer's web site and check out parts. Deere is great this way, I've bought parts for 30 year old Deere stuff without any problems, also Deere stuff holds up and holds its price. You have to consider that too. When you buy from a Deere dealer you get the network, the repair and everything else right in one place. I have an expensive tractor from them with a backhoe on it. I did have problems with one of my other tractors and they took care of it. Next, know your dealer, it was good you checked out the dealers that had equipment you were interested in. Again, that's the beauty of Deere, hard to beat network of dealers. I think Jason from Husqvarna called you out of shame, he knew he would get beat and lose business. He knew there were problems? Then why didn't he fix them years ago, that's not a new company, so what's he saying they've had problems for years? I won't buy their machines! I'll have to watch and see what you did buy but I weigh lots of parameters, that's how I settled on Deere years ago and it has always worked out well for us. (I stay away from their lower priced box store items and only buy from a JD dealer, in the end you save). Thanks again, really enjoyed your honesty ,fairness and openness. Looks like you guys have a great relationship, my wife and I have the same thing, always working together for the best.

I have owned a John Deere 797 commercial with 72” deck for 16 yrs, 29hp Kawasaki liquid cooled engine, no suspension so it’s pretty rough but have had excellent results with it. I cut 6 acres with it, other than a couple of hyd pump belts, and one Pto clutch it’s been very reliable. Was pricey, but worth it. I have a 48” jd lx188 rider for 33 yrs I cut my ditches and around my house because it has the floating deck, the 797 doesn’t have a floating deck and it will scalp if service isn’t flat. I love my spartan rode almost all the big mower brands before. my years the spartan hands down feels the best and warranty work has been great especially at my local dealer Bluff Powersports, Poplar Bluff Missouri. Ive had great experience they even pushed a warranty thru a month past my warranty expiration because they felt it shouldnt have broke/wore out with the hours that was on my mower. This is very timely for me. I am looking for a zero turn and want to spend a little bit in the range of 4-5 acre mowing. Almost picked up a bb maverick but the numbers didn't add up with their 0% financing. It was almost 20% above the advertised price - which is insane to me. I could easily buy it from another place (with a 4% financing). Still looking and digging in more on what I really need/want. I actually had Husqvarna on my list and now have dropped it from my chase.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors
Ай бұрын
Yes, sometimes the numbers and financing are exactly what they seem. I think in the end you end up paying around the same for what you get whether the finance charge is buried into the cost of the mower or a finance fee or a higher interest rate, etc. We will be doing more videos showing more mowers and in-depth reviews on a few. We will also be choosing our new mower soon and sharing why we chose it. We have learned a lot over the last few months about lawnmowers. I definitely check out bad boy, gravely, Ferris, Skagg, and many others that are mentioned in these comments.
There are many great mid mount zero turns mowers on the market. I got on to them over forty years ago before they got so popular with the homeworkers. I also think that the front mount mowers are often overlooked by most people. Probably because there are not as many manufacturers of them. But I have run front mount Grasshoppers for over 35 years, and I find there better riding and, most of all, have the ability to mow underneath large pine trees without getting all beat up from the trees themselves. Another brand is Walker, which makes a front mount and probably others that I don't know about. My advice is to drive one and see if it fits your needs. Thanks

Have a Kubota zero turn for 24 years and just bought a John Deere. The Kubota has been a great mower with no mechanical issues just normal service which I have done myself. However, the Kubota dealer is horrible. I only looked at local (25 miles) dealers. Kubota, JD, Exmark, Bobcat and Bad Boy. It all came down to the dealership VS price and service department. Bobcat was by far the most expensive, the JD was not the cheapest; it all came down to the dealership. JD was it in my area. I have about 30 hours on the JD and I love it. Great video, God Bless!

I went out on a limb and bought 2 Bobcat mowers. The ZT 7000 and ZT 6000 for my commercial business. I’ve ran them through some of the craziest fields and yards and they just keep rolling. The downside to both mowers is the weight. Some hills give me trouble and it’s easy to rip the turf if I’m not careful. However they are way over built and I have yet to have an issue after two years in business. Both have Kawasaki engines. The manual says 100 hours but I change my oil every 50.

Son is mechanically talented, and took that ZT in only to have them tell him it was a plug needed replaced or somethig...said they found problem fast and it embarrassed my son. They transport units within generous limits. Help me decide one thing about mowing my 1plus acre ground pleez; for a best health purpose, me being now 73 and being use to only tractor mowers, like the Husq. Sitting out in back of my field broke down, motors running OK, but stopped going forward at all suddenly (?), and which I've had like 10 years fixing the deck and had the Kholer replaced almost free due to recalled engines...my mechanic did the labor. Well anyway I scored super high on a school days tech apptitude test in 1969 to my school's shock, cos I was not able to do well at all in math. Sorry to drag on, got to say a tad more...my son told me if I get a ZT mower I will never go to the tractor kind. The thing is I NEED SMOOTH RIDE at 73 now, but now hearing it's hard wheel in front on ZTs, and I do some gardening and firewood moving around her, which dealer says I should stay tractor mowers. I need more info, and opinion, though your videos help loads. Thanks, my son things I need to just do it whatever, but I think it pays to hesitate some times. It's city ordinances pushing me to also...just been to the ER, and resting, and my dear preacher-nieghbor came over with his ZT and mowed what all grass the city can see from the road.
