My mum and dad worked in the empire when it was a bingo hall, I knew every inch of that building. My dad had his workshop under the stage in the basement where the old elevator was that used to lift performers to the stage. It was a stunning building then and is now. My only gripe is the glass front. The old entrance to the main auditorium was stunning with a lovely grand staircase , I feel the glass.front has taken away so much of.the history and grandness of the front, very very sad. I have happy memories of being in the empire as a bairn, it was an amazing place to be in back then.
