So... As my dog rubbed his back under my leg while sat at the dinner table, it became very apparent he wanted a scratch. I thought... I can build him a back-scratcher! Then I immediately thought... Oh wow... I could prototype and sale my idea... Let me see if they exist or what my competition looks like. Then I see this 😂.... There truly is NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN. GOod build and definitely functional. Won't become the 'back-scratcha millionaire" anytime soon 😂

Wow. Your dog looks remarkably like our own Beagle Bassett mix, and he does exactly this same thing whenever we have our feet up. I may have to copy your design and build him a back scratcher.

My dog has itchy skin. I spend alot of time scratching her and using a brush on her to relieve her. Shes miserable. Ive used apoquel which is very expensive and it does nothing to help her. I've thought of something like this and thats why I googled dog scratchers. If you could make improvements, make it adjustable, maybe put brushes on the top and both sides, and speed control you would be a wealthy person!

Frank Sandqvist Well, it is a great idea. I guess the trick is that you have to make it _feel better_ that the kitchen chairs. Maybe the bar could have one or two hair-brushes on it, like those cylinder-shaped ones. Also needs a height adjustment before you can take this to the "shark tank."

pocket83 Yeah, this was just something I threw together a boring afternoon. Those things would definitely have been improvements! Funny thing though, you mention the "shark tank"; I was actually contacted by a person who works at a company that makes TV-shop stuff. But the industry people/investors turned it down. Too hard to sell this on TV, perhaps.

I think the problem with a back scratcher is the same problem a human has when scratching an itch too much. It would lead to further irritation and possible damage to the skin. The correct solution is determining the cause, whether it be a food allergy (or other allergy), dry skin, dirt, or maybe a bug bite, then treating that. It’s never a good idea to scratch, it’s an endless venture. I was going to build this but I realized it’s not the best approach for my dog. I’ll try the head and shoulders trick and consult a vet if that doesn’t help. Thanks for the vid.

So why hasn't anyone put a motorized dog scratcher on the market yet? Dog steps on it and sensor turns it on. The one in this video will just tease most dogs. We have a beagle that constantly wants her back scratched even after using moisturizers for her dry skin. We wouldn't let a dog get leisure use of the scratcher since they wouldn't know when to quit even after their skin looks likes ground hamburger, but let them use it when we are tired of constantly giving or too busy to give them attention.

+Dawn Vance Unfortunately, some dogs have skin problems. I thought about making one and figured someone else has had to have the same idea and found this awesome video. My dog has skin allergies. I've spent more money than I care to admit to try to help relieve her itch. I hate seeing her suffer. I was giving her allergy shots once a week, but she hated it and it wasn't doing much good. I give her a prescription antihistamine twice a day and that seems to help the best, but she likes to have her back scratched quite often. Thankfully she isn't chewing and scratching herself to a bloody pulp like she was.
