Backroads Surf is my first expedition project following 3 surfers who fell in love with the Northern Irish coast and culture. The people I met here are warm and hospitable to everyone they meet, despite the challenges of the weather and the rugged nature they live in. It is the place that I have visited the most in my entire career, a place that has changed my life and the way I see surfing as a photographer and videographer.
Cold weather, gale force winds & waves that sound like thunder.Driving through peat bogs and tracks that only slightly resemble roads. These are the scenes an unlikely bunch of friends encounter in their search for fleeting moments in the big waves of the North-West of Ireland. Hanno from Germany, Robin from Switzerland and Sander from the Netherlands, all bound to the North-West by the wild Atlantic.
