Backpacking the Hopi Salt Trail to Little Colorado River, Grand Canyon

If your looking for a challenging , strenuous hike that consists of mainly rock scrambling ,yet rewarding, then this might be the hike for you! This one kicked our butt for sure! The trail is almost non existent but thanks to our All Trails app and Carins laid all along the trail we were able to follow the trail just fine. Unfortunately when we arrived at the river , the water was brown not, blue like we were hoping, but still the views were mind blowing. The best part was sleeping on the ground, no tents, just laid under the stars! The moon lit up the entire side of the canyon providing us with plenty of light. It was amazing. Of course the hike out was a whole other challenge. Lol , but we took our time and made it our just fine with no injuries. We loved this hike and would do it again, hopefully next time when the water is blue!!#grandcanyon #hikingadventures #arizona

I've always wanted to do this hike. I used to live in AZ, but now live in France, so you're video may be the only way I get to do it. Thanks!

We said we would give it one more try and if the water is brown again , we’re just done trying. Hopefully third time is a charm. Lol . The good thing is you can see the color of the water before making that long trek.

We heard in April or October was a good time, we have gone both times and been unsuccessful. It really just depends on the rain. We are going to try one more time, but if the water is brown again we’re done trying lol. The good thing is you can see the color of the water before deciding to make the long trek down.

So you must have carried enough water to not have to filter since you didn’t make it to the bottom? What kind of cliff exposure is there since you mentioned you don’t recommend this for someone scared of heights?

Yes, we had plenty of water with us. There are several parts of the trail where you are walking along the cliff and the cliff exposure varies. But there are some parts with some pretty big drops. I guess it really depends on your level of comfort. But it can definitely be a challenge for anyone with even the slightest fear of heights.
