Backpacking Solo In The Juniper Prairie Wilderness

This is my overnight trip into the Juniper Prairie Wilderness, (June 2018), located in the Ocala National Forest (ONF). It was a very hot and humid this time of year so if you plan on backpacking in the ONF be prepared. theamericanbackpacker.tv (Theamericanbackpacker@gmail.com)

I love it in Juniper Prairie. It can be hot as heck out there. I have hit into a bear in Hopkins Prairie - just north.... love your channel.

Awesome vid. This is motivation. Thank you for this cause I was a little hesitant and unsure where to backpack and camp. Now I have an idea of my first primitive camp trip. Thank you

Outstanding, This time of year is especially nice to head out because of the temps. Make sure you have the proper cold weather gear because of the freezing temperatures.

Nice video Andy. I like backpacking, camping and hunting up there in Ocala NF. I've been to hidden pond with my boys and their Boyscout troop. Great spot for weekend camping.

Thank you, I will work on getting it corrected. I sometime use a separate mic that I sync with my videos. On this trip it gave me some problems and I had to use my GoPro mic which is not very good.

Any water sources out in juniper prairie along the trail?

Yes you have some ponds off the trail. They can be difficult to approach with the wetlands around them, especially with all the rain we have been having. They are accessible and watch out for the gators. Check for their nests and slide marks around the area you plan on filtering water. I will always observe the area I am going to get water from for about 10 to 15 minutes looking for bubbles and other movements which may indicate that there is a gator in the area. Make sure you have a good water filter. The vegetation in the water can clog your filter if you cannot find a good spot to filter your water. The water has a brown tint look, but it is good to drink as long as you filter it.
