You need to test out Meindl Boots! I got the Vakuum GTX, made for a lifetime. The bottom is designed for easy exchange and the Vakuum insole adapt to the shape of your foot. The company designed the mountain boots for the german (and Austrian I think) army for several years

I’ve tried all the backpacking pillows (at least 10 Nemo, Exped, sea 2 summit, etc) and the Flextail zero pillow is the best. The ergonomically shaped air bladder is a game changer, and honestly I’m confused why no other companies sell the same shape. One thing I find though is the valve leaks. Retired one and the another also leaks.

Love my Soto Windmaster, i daily it whenever i'm out in the field for work. boils half a litre of water for tea fairly quickly. great simmer control (need to get used to the feel for it). I've added it to my set with an Optimus Clip-on windshield (need to cut 2 slots for the legs to slide into otherwise it doesn't fit with all 4 legs extended.) and a Primus 1L Trek pot (not a fan of the handle but it has server me well over the last year.) add in a spare lighter, 3D printed canister feet, and an 8oz canister with some rubber edge trim to protect the bottom of the pot. Glad to see people are using them more and more.

Yes, I trust my windmaster and I've even gone Soto all the way for my hiking kitchen. Windmaster (60gr), 4flex pot support (26gr), stove sack (10gr), thermostack combo (290gr) on solo trips. With more people, I'll carry the navigator pot set instead of the thermostack combo. I like to actually cook on overnights, and the aluminium pots are less likely to burn their bottoms than titanium pots.

With GaiaGPS, just ensure you have a look at the map before you head out. For some reason it’s missing all the contour lines in the south western bit of the Gariwerd (around Chimney Pots) for instance.

Just bought a Soto Windmaster myself but decided to pair it with a 1100mL Toaks pot that I got off amazon for about $84. It's got that bail handle too so when you accidentally let it rip with a whole pot of boiling water you can get yourself out of trouble with a tactical stick. Pity you couldn't get a Rapide but in case you hadn't heard they just did an upgrade to it so that it is now a higher R value pad (R= 4.8) due to some insulation changes. I love mine so much. Comfiest backcountry sleeps I've ever had! Someone has to say it Mowser, you smashed the K word but Gaia - the personification of Earth herself, mother of all life - is pronounced 'guy - uh' Love the video mate, new year new gear

Have you tried the Flextail pump with the Tensor? I have the Tensor, too, and consider buying this pump as it also includes a lamo, but not sure if it fits/works with this pad. BTW: try pronouncing Lowa like Lova (English v resembles more the hard German w).

LOWA( LOW-A) Renagade GTX mids have been my go to boots for at least 15 years. Never a problem. Still love them. But, I am trying the LEM Boulder Summit boots as a flexible leather zero drop hiker. Hey Mows. Are you planning for the Eldons? My Soto Windmaster ignition failed after a few years. Still a fantastic stove though, the best in my opinion. For power banks, I love the Dark Energy Poseidon Pro’s - they are smaller 10000mAh but are essentially indestructible, certainly a peace of mind when out on those remote trips. Foot shapes that get blisters are going to have the issue with boots or trail runners. I use a little New Zealand blister wool (such as wool-it) and hold it in place with leukotape. Works like a charm.

Speaking of gear excitements for this year, I'm wondering if I should go for an HMG Southwest 55 and upgrade my current Osprey set up. I have an Atmos 65 (2.2kg) for longer trips and an Exos 48 (1.3kg) for shorter trips. My big three also include a Rapide SL, a 750gr, -6°C comfort-rated quilt, and a Durston X-Mid 2p. I reckon I can drop a few hundred grams this year, and maybe the Southwest pack at 900gr is a good start. What do you think?

  • @mowsertas

I went from like an Osprey Aether 80 or 90L pack to a Hyperlite Porter 85L and love it. So glad I did it. I also have a Southwest 70L and am going to try hard to get everything into that for my up coming 9 dayer. I reckon southwest would def be a good start to make some weight savings. As long as you think you could get everything in 55L, otherwise for some buffer you could go for next size up. I am a big fan of Hyperlite. Would also love to check out a Durston X-mid some time too!

I bought mine at Aspire in Launceston. Was VERY hard deciding on size but I ended up going for some with a bit more room and will use with inner soles. But Lowa Australia will cover return shipping cost if your order and size is incorrect so may be worth trying that! From their website: “LOWA's 3 for 30 Home Trial Remember, you have 30 days to trial the LOWA boots at home. You can take advantage of LOWA's 3 for 30 Home Trial by checking for the following 3 points over 30 days: Room in front of your toes Room across the width of your foot Heel lift If the boots are not the right fit or you need to swap the size, you can return them to LOWA if you follow the trial guidelines. The boots must ONLY be worn inside the house for a short period of time and must have all tags attached. LOWA has the right to refuse any returns where the packaging or tags are damaged.” www.lowaboots.com.au/pages/shipping-returns
