Backpacking for big brook trout in the High Uintas - back to a favorite lake.

Спорт

A fishing buddy and I shouldered our backpacks and headed back to a favorite brook trout lake of mine. I had hit him up about going to a lake that I had never been to before but wanted to go to this particular lake. He's known about the lake for years but had never made the trek in. The lake happens to be one of my very favorites, so it wasn't hard to convince me to change my plans. We ended up having a great time. We caught some nice brook trout and had a fantastic dinner. Thanks for tagging along----lets go!

I've pulled several decent brookies out of there over the years. That big female was certainly one of the better ones.

The Uintas hold special memories for me - many scout camps there when I was a kid. I love the Firecracker Balanced Leech - but if you don't like tying (or buying) balanced flies here's a tip: try a bead head Firecracker Wooly Bugger. (Instead of a chenille body use thick firecracker dubbing and soft black palmered hackle. Fish it deep and slow!) - Thanks KJ for the excellent adventure!

I beat you to this lake this year and it was my mistake. I couldn't even get over to that side of the lake because there was four feet of pink snow there; and the water was super murky. I got skunked.

My friend went there the 24th of June and he said it was still partly frozen and the boulder side was completely covered in snow

Well he must have plowed through mountains of snow. I went in July and I still had to push through plenty of it.

Another great video Kent - Unitas are in my backyard, and still looking for some decent lakes for bigger fish. Winter kill hit a few lakes, glad you found some deeper water. Hope to cross paths.
