I'm a newbie to RVing and backing up a trailer. We just bought 2023 F350 DUALLY with the backup assist. I backed in my first two trips in about a minute!! Freaking system is awesome!!!

I would have like to see it used with a shorter trailer, since those are notoriously more difficult to back up.

It works awesome on a shorter trailer. I dont use mine because im a pro with all of my trailers. But, if I have someone backing me into the water with my boat or ski, you can get straight, turn it on and anyone can back you in with ease.

I love the tech. I have it on my F-150 and it's great to have. Yes, I can back up a trailer manually, but I also enjoying having the option. I have a small jetski trailer and I especially love using the assist to just keep her going straight down the boat ramp.

  • @chrism2042

It's cool technology, I see so many people at boat ramps that could use that feature. BUT! My personal opinion, if someone can't back a trailer, they shouldn't be towing a trailer. Several years ago, my Wife wanted to go meet our friends on an upcoming horse ride when I was tied up with business and couldn't go. She had been towing the GN horse trailer with me in the truck but had done minimal backing. I told her I was fine with her taking my truck and our trailer on horse rides when I couldn't go, providing she could back the trailer in tight spots. For four weekends, early Sat and Sunday mornings we took the horse trailer to a shopping center parking lot where I set out cones and she spent over an hour each trip maneuvering around cones and backing through cones with my Ram 3500 dually and 24' GN horse trailer. A year later we got a 42' living quarters horse trailer, she practiced with it and could put that trailer anywhere she wanted.

Wow I can’t imagine why anyone would prefer to spend 15 minutes learning how to use tow assist when they could just spend 4 weekends learning to do it all the old fashioned way.

I've been towing for 30 years and until recently have had no issues backing up, but age is starting to attack my body and between cataracts and it getting harder to get in and out of my truck I for one welcome this tech. At my age I don't need to prove how rugged I am but doing things manually, I just want to pull a trailer.

I have it on my F150. Yes it works but honestly the more I tow I find manually is just easier once I figured out steering. I do really like the integrated rear view camera Ford and GMC are integrating into camera views and that honestly is more helpful than most of other tech.

I've been towing trailers since I have gotten my driver's license, and I have also had my CDL for 2.5 years now so I think I'd do worse backing up with the assist. The tech behind this is kinda cool though.

If you are great at backing trailers, it just adds a new skill to learn. It is much slower if you are already good. (It controls your speed). This is for your wife to back you and the boat into the ramp with ease.

I think it makes drivers less safe. Now they can more easily haul more weight with less knowalge and zero traning. We have to get a CDL if we haul so much as a brick in a trailer. Im calling this feature the "Noob Knob". I pulled the knob out of the turck and threw in the glove box. Putting some other, more usefull stuff in its place

Awesome feature to have. You did an amazing job backing the trailer in especially while holding the camera. One downfall I can see is people will get fixated and rely on the camera too much, and won’t be aware of what’s around them such an animals, people, obstacles, etc. But the feature is great for those with little to no experience backing a trailer in. It can definitely be frustrating and intimidating for those who are new.

I towed open race car trailers for years. So this would be so counter intuitive to my brain and butt. But it’s been so long, I’d probably like this feature if the truck was my primary towing vehicle. Think backwards- just like a woman 😳 🤔 A Shame I didn’t know that years ago 😂

My question is if you have a fifth wheel already with a back up camera installed on the rig would you need to install the pro trailer system camera as well on the back of the rig for the feature to work or could you just use yourfurion back up camera that you have?

  • @bigbadbob143
    @bigbadbob143 Жыл бұрын

I temporarily stuck my sensor on my fifth wheel and connected the cable. Everything was plugged in. When I pressed my trailer assist knob, my screen said that the sensor was not connected. I tried several times. Yes I created a new trailer. Any thoughts? FYI. My truck and trailer were not level. It was just a test before permanent installation

If you can’t back your trailer you better stick to a motorhome. Trailer backing is very simple, place your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and what ever way you move your hand that’s the way the trailer is going to go.

Features/technology like this are absolutely ridiculous. If someone needs aids like this to backup a trailer, they probably shouldn’t be pulling a trailer. It’s likely you will get yourself in a situation that you wouldn’t have had you learned the skills needed to back a trailer up. My wife, bless her heart, can not walk, talk and chew gum at the same time without tripping on her own feet. She can back a empty boat trailer connected to a mildly lifted 3/4ton, which does not have these dummy controls, into the water with one try.

  • @TheRangerman00

Exactly I’m glad someone said something common sense about these new trailer back up aids. If you can’t back up trailer without the aids you shouldn’t be backing up in the first place.

You were too experienced for this to be a useful video. You never really used the backup system. It would be much better if you put a novice in the vehicle instead and you filmed them. Waste of viewer's time to watch you ignore the feature.

You guys are so closed minded. Imagine you just bought a $150,000 boat, but you are the only one that can back a trailer. You want your wife or buddy driving your new boat? NO. You get the trailer straight on the ramp and basically let the truck back you in while said wife or buddy sits in the drivers seat. My 18 y/o daughter can probably back a trailer better than any of yall without this feature anyway.
