This is actually like a proper course for the complete beginner to the game and it is very well taught. A few people are saying he could cut the course in half but there are other courses online if you want that. A fast rapidly explained course which are not ideal for the complete beginner as they assume you know the basics. A complete beginner does not know anything so this is the perfect course for them.
Thank you for making all these videos! I am learning to play by your videos. My teen son and I have added this game to our weekly mom and son night. My husband and son play chess so now I have this game to play with my son. Thanks again for taking the time to make these videos. You made it easy to follow and understand. :)
What a wonderful game it is. I hope its popularity picks up again. Thanks for the great tutorials! Very well broken down! 5 minutes is my maximum attention span! =)
So far so good. Got thru the first 12. Really good and clear instruction. Thanks for these videos.
@hezahonker You're very welcome. Glad to be of help.
excellent series. thank you for taking time to explain this properly.
Excellent explanations. Thanks a lot.
Nice explanation. Thanks
Hi. Checkers on the bar count for 25 pips, in effect 1 more than being all the way back at the 24 point. When recording the next video, I suddenly remembered that I didn't state the number for the bar, so well spotted :)
Kind of you to say. Much appreciated :)
This really is as far as a beginner needs to go, pip counts and the doubling die is for competition players. If you want to play with friends on the same level, play for points, first to 10 or 15 wins, the loser buys the beer, makes the tea or removes an item of clothing make it fun and enjoy a great game. Nice set of vids too.
@23SportsKing23 A point may contain any number of your checkers, from 0 all the way up to all 15.
Yes :), it was a gloomy late afternoon when I did this one. English weather at its finest.
is the PC of a marker on the bar 25 ?
Very few, if any of the people in countries where backgammon is still played in the traditional way have heard of pip counts. For thousands of years, people have been playing with points count alone and I was surprised to see some errors in US Backgammon Federation references on points count rules. Maybe it is another case like early soccer games with rules derived from football. People in these countries wouldn't call soccer as football back then and it is the same with pip counts and backgammon for them.
Bit like snooker in a way,I didn't like it at first as I play chess but I might give it a go...a lot of rules but I'm sure you'd pick em up?is their penalties for breaking or not knowing rules?
What kind of board is this? Because I find only red/white or wooden versions but not red/black on your video and I like it...
what's the pip count for the bar?
Hi, Do you play at gridgammon? online site
the lower your pip count number the better , is this correct ? also , is the number of checkers you have borne off included in your pip count ?

TY , so the pip count only has any importance BEFORE checkers are borne off , once bearing off starts the pip count is irrelevant ?

ok ty ( sorry for the dumb Q's ) so is the amount of checkers Borne Off a better indicator of who is winning than a low Pip Count , in other words can the player with a low PC be deemed to be winning even though the opponent has more checkers BO but has a higher PC ? i hope that makes sense : )

TY very much for your helpful explanations : )
Crap! This is where it gets confusing! :`-/

Bugger! I was enjoying all this until it came to pip counts. Maths is not my strong point :-(
