    Hi, sorry if the explanation wasn't explicit enough. To clarify; with red having the checkers on the 1 and 2 points, there is no roll of the dice that WON'T allow him to bear off both checkers to win. With a double 1 roll, he would play from the 1 point into the tray, from the 2 point to the 1, and then again from the 1 point into the tray. It wouldn't be necessary to use the available fourth move once the game was won.

    Got a gammon on my third game! It was hilarious because he thought he prevented it but he didn't have a checker on the 3

    @23SportsKing23 Hi. Yes, you would just skip your turn until one of the points had fewer than 2 checkers occupying it, giving you a chance to enter.

  • @Ensor42
    @Ensor4212 жыл бұрын

    @SuperCoolclay Hi, so long as the player had got at least one checker off before being put on the bar, then the game would be worth 1 point. If he still hadn't got any checkers off, then it would be a backgammon, and count for 3 points.

    I was going to ask, when you said it didn't matter what red rolled with one checker on 1 and one on 2, what happened if red rolled a 1 1, but then realized that if it's a double like that, there are 4 moves of 1. Maybe that could be made clearer?

  • @Ensor42
    @Ensor4213 жыл бұрын

    @trashtropper Once you have begun your bear off phase by removing at least one checker, you would only concede the single game if your opponent got all of their checkers off, regardless of where your remaining checkers were.

    @1erXeneize Hi. That would be a single game to red, as black, despite being interrupted, had already begun the bear off phase.

    First off, great video's! And a (perhaps dumb) question, at 1:57 you say that it wouldn't matter what was rolled. But what if red rolled a double 1?

    Dutch Blades He would have gotten four moves of one, so he still would have cleared. hope that helps!

    Thanks for the response ;) Looking back on it now, it was a pretty dumb question... I've been playing a lot of backgammon the past month and I'm really liking the game. I've even started playing some nackgammon for more laid back matches every now and then (less blitzing), and hypergammon for fun short matches. All thanks to your videos!

    This is almost impossible but still possible, what would happen if one side had begun to bear off then got knocked to the bare and was unlucky enough to never get off the bar while his opponent cleared off his pieces having cleared pieces and still being on the bar, would the win count for 1, 2, or 3 points? Thanks for the great videos. I have been playing but not knowing the terminology.

    Hi, thanks for these useful videos for a complete beginner like me. Quick question pls, if the black player managed to bear off a couple of stones, but for some reason the red hit one of the remaining black stones, and with the black stone still not played, red manages to bear off all his checkers.....Is that a gammon, backgammon, or single game?

  • @Ensor42

    @KripDrip :-) Well, "better" can be a very subjective word! Sweeping changes like these would carry serious consequences for the subtle balance of scoring, let alone the implications on doubling decisions and money play. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a purist when in comes my beloved game!

    @dexietable Hi, you're quite welcome :) I'm curious to know which computer program you're playing against... Not that I wish to dampen your enthusiasm or anything, but it may be advisable to be cautious when judging your progress against certain programs. For example, the Xbox Live Arcade game "Hardwood Backgammon" plays an appallingly poor game, even on so-called "expert" level - it even breaks the rules on occasion!
