There are some good videos on KZread for how to play backgammon but your series stands head and shoulders above them all. Thank you for sharing these. They are all excellent.

Because I went on for too long in this video (again!), I had to split it into two parts. I decided to split it at the point just before I explain the application of dice distribution in the move, to give anyone who wants to try, the chance to work out the correct play with the 1. I realise that this should be quite obvious to any regular backgammon player, but I thought it might be fun to let some newer players have a think on it before I upload part 2...

Is there a quick way to figure out the odds while you are playing?

Hi. It's mostly a case of remembering the sequence of hitting chances etc, based upon distance, and which points are open. Tables showing this are fairly easy to find in most decent backgammon books. I find the odds calculator on the following page can be quite handy, though not really practical during play :) www.paulspages.co.uk/bgvaults/tips/dicerolls.php

Are you FORCED to play both dice or can you forfeit a turn to stay in a certain position or forfeit one die to prevent a hit set up?
