Backcountry Skiing in Big Cottonwood Canyon // Utah Backcountry Skiing // Powder Park 3 & Tom's Hill

Спорт

Subscribe! It snowed so much this past February here in Utah which almost made up for our terrible start to the season. Finally, after nearly 100 inches of snow, we got a sunny day! Elena and I backcountry skied in Big Cottonwood Canyon two areas that are less than 30º (safe from avalanches) called Powder Park 3 and Tom's Hill. Though they were a little tracked out, it was still such a fun day to be our ski touring in the mountains.

Super fun video man! Gave me a chuckle about Mill D. Was good to see Spruces burried and people hiking up to Tom's and short swing. It's so hot right now, can't wait for November...

Great content Wright. I’m enjoying the video and it helps me to get familiar with Utah as I’m from Italy and I don’t know and respect your mountains! I will be visiting soon SLC and hopefully I can join you for an adventure

Great video. That zone is where I’d like to do my first “real” touring when I’m able to travel. Meanwhile I’ve been practicing my skinning on Laurel Ridge here in PA. Excellent beginner tour from my research. Thanks for mentioning the

If the BCC back country has just become a bunch of tracked out crud, why even bother?

Doing backcountry in Little and Big Cottonwood canyons in the early-mid 80's really, really spoiled me. Back then any hike longer than an hour was considered a long hike. I understand it's different now.

@@1173536 a lot more people doing backcountry and the gear is better. People have finally realized SLC is a great place for skiing, resorts and especially backcountry. I was raised in SLC and started skiing at Alta in the late 50's. I watched all this happen. Moved to Hood River in 87 and still in the Mid Columbia river gorge.
