    Hi David, each practice serves to create that imprint for the body and the mind. Sometimes the mind needs it more than the body but they alternate depending on our condition. Well done!

    Great class!!! I've been practicing for 2 years now ans I've improved a lot. I've got back problems such as herniated discs, grade 1 anterolisthesis L4 over L5 and stenosis, but I feel quite better now I 've committed to practice and losing weight. I need to improve my backbends a lot and I also feel my hips need streghen up, as well. So, I would like some guidance towards asanas or classes that will spscifically good for me. Thanks from Brazil.

    Hi Jussara, I know you have been practicing for some time with me. I know you practiced with the foundation course. Build from the ground up. The 30-day Posture and Alignment also helps to connect the understanding in the body. Understanding the posture and your body will help you become more sensitive in the postures. How to make space while elongating. You need this intellectual understanding to practice. More standing posture for the strength in the hips. The forward bends will also help to prepare for backbending. Losing weight is a good direction and you will have less weight on the joints. Continuous practice in the correct was will be the best way to progress. Congratulations on your determination. All the best. Kathy ♥️🙏🏻

    Kajal, thank you for joining us. So good to hear you are finding the teaching valuable. I do plan to do a sirsasana practice. I am cautious as one must be practicing Salamba Sarvangasana- shoulder-stand and standing poses to develop the understanding of the actions, direction and strength to keep one safe. Having said that please practice and have patience until it’s presented, it will come soon. Please tell me about your practice. 🙏🏻

    Dear Kathy, thank you very much for such a detailed lesson! I still do have some questions: 1) Are there any other compensation for people who cannot do halasana because of age? What can you advise them? 2) What is your opinion about passive backbends including yoga blocks?

  • @DesaYogiIyengarYoga

    @DesaYogiIyengarYoga

    Dear Alexey, 1. Regarding the age, is it the age or mobility or both? There are other inversions that can be done but would be helpful to know your condition. I can recommend the best poses to be done and props to be used. Are you a regular practitioner or new to your practice? 2. Depending on one’s condition the blocks can be a big support to do a pose, hold a pose longer or targeting a particular area. If you are asking about backbendings, they are great to get the needed lift to stay and absorb the benefits. There are many variations, usages and modifications. Let me know more, thanks for joining.

    As a solo practitioner, how am I supposed to pull on straps?!

  • @DesaYogiIyengarYoga

    @DesaYogiIyengarYoga

    2 жыл бұрын

    Dear Julie, a really good question, thank you for asking. Many time while trying to convey a direction or particular action I demonstrate with a prop. Here I have used the strap to show the directions of the shoulder girdle and also the shift of weight to the legs to lengthen the trunk creating lightness in the shoulders. This will activate the legs and bring balance. I appreciate your working on your own, so this is where we get creative. For the strap on the thighs you can take around a open door looped around the door handles. In this way you step into the strap into downward dog. For the shoulders in downward dog a partner or friend can help. But if not possible you can still put the strap on like I have shown in Tadasana (standing upright) in this way you can get the sense of direction for the shoulders and shoulder blades which is important for standing and sitting in daily life. The idea here is to gain understanding and clarity through an imprint of the impression you feel. Experiment and see how you can adjust and modify to help get that traction. If you have two belts, attach them together, making the belt longer. By placing one end under the heels while the shoulder jacket is pulled down you can observe the correct direction. Wall ropes are also useful, check out the Wall Ropes Class. Hope you have a better understanding of different ways to practice. 🙏🏻

    @@DesaYogiIyengarYoga Thanks for your response. As a long term Iyengar student, I understood what to do while practicing alone, but if I had no previous understanding of props, I would have been lost. Your classes are great and I appreciate the thoughtful sequencing, but in this class, I think it would have been great to show the student how to rope-up alone. Thank you again. You and Cat de Rham have carried me through the pandemic and beyond.

    I was going to ask that. Maybe I could use the ropes for the legs and pull the strap while going on a “handless” downward facing dog? Than ads the hands later?
