'Back To The Barras' - a wander round the world famous Glasgow Barras, 50 years on!

My Dad, Stephen Marshall, goes 'Back To The Barras' in Glasgow for the first time in over 50 years. Dad had a stall he ran every Sunday in the late 1960's, early 1970's, and here he returns for the first time in over 50 years to wander round the world famous market recounting his time and the sights he saw!

Great video, I remember buying my first computer from the Barras, an Atari ST with Cubase back in the early 90's, also there was a wee porno mag place that I used to visit and it was always full of customers, glory days that have long since gone.

We got married in January 1972 and because fresh flowers were too expensive I bought an artificial bouquet from the Barras! Don’t think I’ve been to the Barras since. That was a lovely trip down memory lane.

Sad to see how it's dying out. I remember the barras booming in the late 90s early 2000 . CDs dvd and tobacco 😂

You're right James, not what it used to be but it's definitely improving and they are working really hard to attract a new generation of Barras customers - fingers crossed! :) Hope you enjoyed Dad's short film! :)

Good to see that the Loch Fyne is still there 😊 I came from the Gorbals and because I ran about with with the Cumbie Gang we had to be careful in the late 60s and early 70s because we fought with the San-Toi and the Calton Tongs who came from the Barras area , from Glasgow 😎🇬🇧

I like the Barras but Paddy’s market was better. Today the Barras just sells rubbish it has been ruined like all of todays markets.
