In Sweden we get our supplies like notebooks and pencils, erasers and folders for free at the school but if we want extra stuff like pencil cases we have to buy it ourselves. We even get free school lunches that are healthy with a lot of vegetables. ( the vegetable options is better at some schools than others)

Im going to assume you are British based off of your use of the word 'quid', the canadian dollar is equivalent to about 3 British pounds, and stuff is generally more expensive in canada because it is cheaper for companies to have factories in America and then send it to canada, the shipping and handling fees are forked onto the canadian consumer.

I somehow manage to keep my back to school supplies (besides new textbooks) to a very small price by just simply keeping everything from previous years. All I do is just get new pens every once in a while.

What has been helpful to me is to buy at the end of September for next year. Like buying a Halloween costume in November. I try to buy all my son’s stuff out of season, like his winter coat in summer, and bike and summer clothing in winter. Although you do need to have the luxury of having room for storage.

My school supplies consisted of the same 3 notebooks, binders, and mechanical pencils for 4 years

How to shop for back to school on a budget: When most people buy school supplies, it’s a few folders, notebooks, pencils/pens and erasers + bag and pencil case (if you need new ones). 6 notebooks = 4.50$ (75¢/per notebook). 6 folders = 3$ (50¢/per folder). 1 binder = 1-3$. Pencil case = 7-8$. Pencils = 3$ Backpack = 25-30$ (not brand name). That totals around 51$. Those are only the bare necessities and paper, tissues, hand sanitizer will all cost an extra maybe 10$? But you can always use the same backpack for many years if you take care of it! Same things with pencil cases.

@@peptheforeversuperiorbeing3000 Target, all this stuff is based on target prices since I do shop there for back to school and so all the prices are consistent. I live in NY. Prices may be different now because a few months have passed, but when I made the comment those were the prices at my target during back to school season. The bare necessities like notebooks, pencils, pens and folders are all really cheap there! I don’t know if it’s cheaper at walmart but I still think it’s relatively inexpensive.

Choosing the supplies is the fun part though... You took it from her and made it your style...

My school supplies were always extremely cheap as in all I really needed was pencils and a notebook. The other stuff was bonus but often unused. And I was born in 2001. For university my school supply is mostly electronic so I don’t tend to get stationaries, but think there are definitely cheaper options and if you really want a good budget/deal on those things, buy the supplies after back to school shopping for the sales. We got paperback notebooks that were $1 for $0.19 back then. Not sure if it’d still be that cheap though. An alternative is dollar tree or dollarama for some supplies on the cheaper end

That's really expensive imo. For a planner, 6 notebooks, index cards, 10 pack of folders, a pencil pouch, highlighters, and pens were roughly $55 USD after taxes. My mom bought everything but the pens and highlighters, which I paid roughly $17 for. We had pencils from the previous year on hand still so I used those. Although, it was Walmart brand stuff mostly (except for the planner, pens, and highlighters, which the pens and highlighters were from Pilot)

My books and notebooks alone which we have to buy from the school shops cost around ₹10000 aka 121 us dollors rest like pencil, pens etc we can get around 1000 for a whole year (12 dollors)(not including the bags) i spend like 70 Dollars for pens tho in a year lol

Maybe get binder,normal pens[2-3 dollars a pack], loose sheets and notebooks or maybe just an iPad or laptop for back to school supplies in high school. Get an iPad. Much better for your back, portable, easy organization, and will last you years. Plus you can download your textbooks in PDF form and not have to carry any physical textbooks

I’ve taken some courses with open source online text books and it’s great! I didn’t think I would like not having the physical book but it’s so convenient, with text to speech and definitions. Plus, like you said so much easier to carry.

At my school they pay for our supplies, though we do have to pay 45$ for them to get the school supplies. Honestly, they don’t even give us enough school supplies. We had to earn school supplies by paying attention, that’s so messed up and after all of that all they gave us was a binder and a pencil sharpener. that’s exactly why I’m going back to school shopping.

I finished highschool this month but here's an approx of the shopping I did lol notebooks- $4.39 (₹360) lab records- around $5 Pens- around $6.09 (₹500) Pencils- $0.73 (₹60) Erasers- $0.61 (₹50) Sharpeners-$0.18 (₹15) Rulers- $0.25 (₹20) Dissection kit- around $0.73 (₹60) Pencil case- $3.05 (₹250) Highlighters- $0.49 (₹40) Sticky notes- $0.61 (₹50) Total: around ₹1800 or $22 :) Plus additional expenses of textbooks and manuals $12.19 (₹1000)
