The best eras were 96 - 97...the kocinski years ....and , for me, the last years battle btw Stoprak, Rea and Bautista . Only 3 top riders can make it worthy 2024 will be fantástic
The sound of the Honda 360 V4 is unmatched even by today.
The old Assen was such a strange, special beast. I miss it dearly.

In 1992 I did a trackday there on my stock Suzuki rg500. What a beautiful track it was!!! The banking was even much higher as seen on tv. I felt like Schwantz ( only slower :) that day. They destroyed the track TOTALLY. The last time I watched the GP there was in 2003,don't have any plans to ever go back again....

I was there , some of the best racing I have ever seen
Remember that Race, Rode to Assen for 8 consecutive years. Had a beer with Foggy that night, Foggy's dad got so trollied that he fell over behind the toilet door and no one could get in for a bit. We Rode to Monza in May as well, epic years those were.

Loved those races and love both Honda and Ducati. I so really hate the demise of twin cylinders. Especially the RC51. I don't mind in lines but I wish they gave us both and put just as much effort into the twins as they do current inlines. Not everybody wants a high revving inline four

There are plenty of good used V-twins still and Ducati and Aprilia are making V4’s, which are closer to the V-twin in sound and delivery. That winning bike btw was the V4 powered RC45. And if you think about it, twins are not in demise since parallel twins are now the bread and butter and wave of the future.😅 Inline 4’s are in fact classic! They’re going to be very sorely missed by every sportbike fan once they go extinct.

It was Glorious! Biggest mistake Honda ever made was not making a 1000cc V4 superbike.

@@cnealmartin Hi Chris and Luke - i don't think that the WSBK rules allowed that at that time. 750cc for V4 bikes was the max capacity, i.e. Suzuki GSXR750, Kwak ZX7RR, Honda RC45 etc, V twin bikes were allowed up to 1000cc hence Ducati 916, 996, 998 999 etc. Then Honda cottoned on to the massive difference given and made the SP1, SP2 and Colin Edwards won WSBK on SP2. The RC45 was a beautiful bike. My brother had one and it was incredible. Seeing them lap the Isle of Man at TT time was very special too. Beautiful.

@@davidmccall-smith604 Yes very correct. The mistake I was referring to is when Honda did not use the V4 when the displacement increased to 1000cc. Back then the Vtwins dominated the 750cc bikes.
The riding styles were so different back than... Just the knee going down and they were so planted on the bike... Totally opposite to what it is today...

Something way more realistic about it without the commentary. The commentary is nothing but sales. Tells the listener how to think and in fact keeps them dumb.

I bought all the DVD Collection of these great years in WSB.....Very dissapointed as all the great commentary has gone by Keith and Julian....replaced by post race commentary and it's almost unwatchable....such a shame.
After watching crap wsbk for a few years this is wsbk at its best

The best part is how Foggy & Koncinski swap bikes the next year and Foggy gets embarrassed! I think Koncinski broke him what led to his retirement

It would have been much better if Foggy had never left Ducati. It is paralel to Luchinelli moving to Honda in 82. He would have won if he had stayed in Gallina...but money ...
