Hi guys. Google says it's good for exposure to comment on our own videos. So I have an idea... Help me out guys. What do you think this move should be named? I mean, we name our moves as logically as possible, but maybe there is a better name out there... So leave a comment down below and let us know your ideea.

Apparently, merengue folks call it "colocho": kzread.info/dash/bejne/eH5pr9STo7OvmrQ.html

@@MariusElenaBachata I prefer the intuitive name you display in the video: "Hammerlock/back switch". It DESCRIBES what to do. "Colocho" or "Reverse Titanic" don't.

With practice... It will work always (except with beginners... This is not for your 2 months dancers) Just be sure do push your arms back towards the girl (when you are back to back) do that you don't hurt her :🤣

3 years later this is still one of my go-to moves. I've seen a cool-loooking variation where the guy basically stays in place and moves the lady around him. I wonder if there are any downsides to that way.

@@MariusElenaBachata Sure, I mean when you are going behind her back, Elena moves the right foot front and then left foot left and right foot back. Usually a beginner with the right foot free she will move to the right

@@georgesmith3022 Ohhh... ok. That makes sense. It's true that a beginner most probably will go like that ... but me as a leader, I kind of lead her steps if that makes sense... Using the tension in the arms, I kind of lead her around me ... I go left (behind her), I signal her go right (her left) and so on. But in the worst case scenario, she will step however she will feel, but I will continue my moves (without hurting her of course) and adapt to the situation :P

  • @jamieslate

@@georgesmith3022 I do this move with beginners all the time, to make up for them not knowing it, I just take extra huge steps around the lady, and only turn her 270º when unwinding at the end. This basically shifts our line 90º and makes it easier to unwind at the end.

It means that either your partner is a beginner (around 2-3 months and hasn't learned how to follow a hammerlock), or you haven't practice/don't have enough experience leading it(let's say... under 5 months) . We teach this around 5-6 months of dance classes (8 hours/month + practice) and all our leaders can do it with some practice. P.S. We teach the basic hammerlock in month 2 so they also have around 3 months of going through the basic hammerlock.
