TL's french is not that natural, she has great pronunciation but when she sings you can tell she's not a native and has the antics of a vietnamese singer. When BY sings with her western european stage presence, you can imagine she's a native in some sort of french speaking country, despite her Indochinoise accent. The fact that Bach Yen has lived in france for so many years really instills more frenchness and it shows in her speaking, singing, and antics. She's a true pioneer and a legend.

LOL. I couldn't tell it was Thanh Lan at first. She looks so French now, and I don't see the mole above her lips. I guess it flew away LOL . Nice to see Thanh Lan cheerful again. Thanks for posting.

Thanh Lan grew up in French school in Saigon when she was young...she wrote poems in French...so I think her French is fluent. Bạch Yến went to France to study music in her twenty...left and xame back maybe 13 years later and has been living in France since...so her French is also fluent.

Sonny T, on the same token, when French singers sing in Vietnamese they couldn't get rid of the French twang either. My question to you is, what stage in your life would you consider a good time to stop dishing your own people and praise everyone with a great voice????

Philip Neiman well said on Sonny T’s negativity. These two famous Vietnamese singers Thanh Lan (left) & Bach Yến are well loved and respected since the ‘ 60. In this video they’re probably in their 70 at least🏆. They are one of the best singers, super hot ladies in their twenties. They can sing French, English of course excellent in Vietnamese songs. Look for Bach Yến with Bob Hope (11/16/66 ) on KZread, the sound quality from this video is not that great because it’s 63 years old but doable. I forgot how beautiful she was. She made jokes and spoke perfect English at the age of 22. Bach Yến can sings and speaks 5 languages fluently. Look for Bach Yen-Liberace show on KZread ( Dem Đong, Hava Nagila and Autumn leaves) to listen to some of her different languages. Thank you for defending Vietnamese singers ❤️. South Vietnamese could read, write and speak English and French ( with heavy accent of course ) before 1975 the Fall of Saigon. Schools before 1975 taught children to be trilingual ( Vietnamese, French, English ) so everyone understood and loved all French and English songs even back then. I remembered in elementary school we learned Vietnamese &French, high school we learned Vietnamese & English then college Vietnamese ,French and English. We loved and treasured all the classics French and English love songs from the 60 and 70 artists.

In my opinion, T.L. French accent is better than B.Y. 'Thanh Lan went thru French high school (lycee Marie Curie) in Saigon VN while B.Y. didn't but only went to France at the age of 29. Please correct my if I'm wrong on those facts.

I'm learning French at U and I confirm that there's is no point discussing the difference between T.L'accent and B.Y's one. Their accent is really good in comparison with each other's one and with the people who are at their age.

You should know that there are not only French people who speak french. We have african french, Quebec french.... and Viet Nam used to be France's colony... there are so many people learning french from their childhood and it's very normal if an English man doesn't understand his America cousin.

Thanh Lan doesn't sing in french as naturally as Bach Yen. Like Lassley greatly puts it, w/out Bach Yen, there would be no Thanh Lan.

So funny when Vietnamese singers try to sing in French. They make a great effort but anyhow the Vietnamese accent is still there and it sounds a little weird! Anyway it's entertaining though.
