Bach's Air on the G String by Bob Drury
Музыка
Recorded in Feb. 2021 during lockdown in a morning practice session... I decided to add some atmosphere with a series of photographs taken by the River Stour (our local river) by my wife Laura. Guitar is 1999 spruce top by Mansfield maker Antony Dixon which I'd just acquired. The capo on the guitar (with this arrangement) puts the tune into its original key of D major. @bobdruryclassicalguitarist5977

BEAURIFUL...BACH 'A QUOTE SAID BACH IS THE BEGINNING AND END OF ALL MUSIC'💥
Fantastic!
Thanks. ❤
Merci
I played this all the time I loved it ❤
Nice
Absolutely beautiful performance and interpretation. Bravo! Upon returning home to the nursery after the birth of my daughter, this song was playing on a CD when it became my turn to hold her. I will never forget that moment. Now each and every time I hear this song and melody, it's damn near impossible for me to keep it together. This was no exception. Thank you for your grace and your musicianship.
Wonderful my friend you shine

Great playing Bob, I enjoyed listening to this. Beautiful piece and lovely photos!
Hermoso !!! muy buena version e interpretacion !!! felcitaciones !!!
I guess the bad point about being a good musician as you are, it's how strong drug the music can be. It requires too much dedication, effort and devotion, most of times, without payments and hearing a bunch of bad criticism 😢.

I rather like his stong performance. ❤
A lovely piece . . . even though I learned to play it by ear in my youth and still can't read music. . . .( I'm not proud of that BTW )
Really nice playing Bob.Which version/edition are you using? Lovely photos too!

Thanks Peter, I'm not actually sure where it cam from, some sort of compilation. I'd be happy to email you a copy If you like.
Nice job. Taking a few liberties?
Ich hätte gesagt, da braucht man mindestens 3 Gitarren.

While I definitely lack "perfect pitch", the guitar's tuning seems fairly solid on most notes and chords. The arrangement is odd. To my ears, it sounds like the range is condensed (the bass line is often shifted an octave above its original register and played in a very subdued fashion, as compared to the piano arrangement that I am used to hearing). Also, several liberties were taken with the original melody and chord progression. Maybe a guitar can't play as many octaves as a piano, maybe it's artistic license, maybe the guitar player doesn't have enough fingers to play all of those strings .... I'm not really sure. Whatever the case, I do think that the lack of impactful bass notes detracts from the overall listening experience.

I thought so, too. But then I checked and found that I was playing the video at 1.25x. Sounds a lot better on Normal setting. 😳

Yes the piano has 7 octaves and the guitar only 3 and a half… the piece was originally for orchestra but was arranged by August Wilhelmj so that it could be played entirely on the G string of a violin hence the title! The guitar arrangement I used puts the piece into C major but I put a capo on fret two to present the tune in its original key of D major… however it’s played on the guitar it’s going to be a compromise!
The 16 years ago version is better
When I was kid I also wanted to play this piece, but I considered then to be too stupid for it. Now I could probably play it myself, but do not want to play it anymore. Strange world 🤔🥱🤭
