This is such a great performance. I just love the interpretation and the sound of multi-string guitars is like a modern take on the lute... Keep it going dear friend.

Of all the performances of this suite - and especially of the fugue - that I’ve heard in my life, this one stands head and shoulders above all the rest, except perhaps one public performance by Segovia in the late 1950s. The separation of the voices, the wonderful execution, and the adherence to a constant and invariant tempo in each piece, all contribute to a monument of musicality. The instrument, as is evident to the careful listener, is of the very first class. ❤

The open G tuning is a brilliant idea. Bright, as someone else noted, but it also makes the extended lower bass strings less floppy and is closer to the Baroque lute sound than standard guitar tuning. Your playing tempi are spot on for a dignified majestic sort of treatment these pieces demand. I think you maybe got a little too excited in the Allegro but that's understandable. This is one of the very best interpretations of BWV 998 I've ever heard! Great guitar. Best regards, JS

Dear sir, if you allow me to make a comment, while I was listening to your playing and specifically for this J.S. Bach’s lute suite, I observed your magical because of a youthful, simple almost “childish” way of passing from one phrase to another! You uncover that way, the quintessence of J.S.Bach’s music: The Divine. Thank you.

Too bad that it seems more and more the general custom of video editing to switch image evey 3 or 4 seconds. It realy gets in the way of experiencing music in the first place, especially this wonderful Bach with the long and exciting phrases. It is as if I am, as a listener, caught by the restless eyes of an uneducated and impatient child that cannot sit still and indeed concentrate on the basic quality of music, wich is about listening, nót watching. Please video editors of the modern age of KZread and other media: keep it quiet and more contemplative, in respect for the music. Apologise Carsten, the music is realy fine, but múch finer with my eyes closed. Images can be nice and "well choosen", but also very much, too much in the way.

@@carstengroendahl Thanks for the answer. By hearing, I feel the tone is the same as on the 6-string (D major). I saw that your left hand finger order is different than I know it and it seemed a little easier the way you play. That's why I asked. I also play this piece on an 8 string guitar. My tuning is ebgdaDHA, with it could be played the original piece, but your version seems easier.

I have one more question. In the 20th beat of the fugue the second and fourth of the bass sounds are originally one octave deeper than the first and third. These deep basses are the deepest sounds in the whole piece, and unfortunately I can’t play them on 8 strings. Sometimes I wish I had another 9th string. You have 11 strings, but you don't play those deep bass. I wonder why. Don't like bass sounds that are too deep? 🙂
