Bach - Oboe concerto in D minor BWV 1059R - López Paz | Netherlands Bach Society

A work by Bach presumably unknown to many - for us too - as Bach left behind only a very brief sketch of this concerto, of just nine bars. However, these nine bars do correspond to another piece: the ‘Sinfonia’ of the cantata Geist und Seele wird verwirret (BWV 35). And that’s where this reconstruction - recorded here for All of Bach with oboist Rodrigo López Paz - finds its basis. For the middle movement we have opted for the famous Adagio from the oboe concerto by Alessandro Marcello, which is an audience favourite nowadays, but was also greatly admired by Bach.

The first movement of BWV1059R sounds even more amazing than the original Organ opening concerto from BWV35. great Interpretation!

Lebhafte und wunderschöne Aufführung dieses fein rekonstruierten Konzerts mit herrlichem Ton der genialen Solo-Oboe sowie gut harmonisierten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Originalinstrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt melodisch. Im Kontrast klingt der dritte Satz echt lebhaft und auch rhythmisch. Wunderbar vom Anfang bis zum Ende!

BWV 35 is one of the most groovie cantatas hard to stay on your chair with these two sinfonias. so for us hardcore Bach fans, its nothing new.... but a wonderful performance !!
