Having sung in the chorus of this great work, and having sat in the audience also, I promise you this sublime moment will TEAR YOUR HEART OUT, every single time. Mr. Richter’s very slow, appropriate tempo is almost identical to Furtwängler’s 1954 tempo. He conducts it to perfection (as did Furtwängler).

prachtig, nooit hoor je het zo meer er wordt overheen geraced vaak. eeuwig zonde dit is muziek met het diepste gevoel.

Schon viele namhafte Dirigenten haben seit 1958 (darunter auch K. Richter selber !) versucht, diese einmalige Version des "Wahrlich" zu kopieren - bisher unerreicht. Eine Sternstunde. Since 1958 a lot of famous conductors have tried (among them even K. Richter himself !) to copy this unique version of "Wahrlich" - still unattained up to now. A moment of glory.

It's quite similar to Furtwängler's recording (which you can also find on KZread). I think most conductors take it too fast.

Yes! It makes sense to take it this slow with regard to the text, here they are wondering and realising that it was indeed God's son, and thus I feel the slow unfloding of glorious harmony is more fitting. Of course this is sunjective
