Bach's Invention No. 1 was originally composed as part of a teaching collection for one of Bach's sons, the 15 Two-Part Inventions have since become independent staples of the keyboard education repertoire. These short pieces are constructed using two "voices," or musical lines, one for the upper registers and one for the lower, and are fantastic studies not only for technical growth and control at the keyboard, but also for compositional design.
