Fun fact: A recording of this piece was sent into deep space with Voyager 1 on a golden record. This piece along with others is the farthest a physical piece of music has ever travelled. Around 14.2 billion miles as of the posting of this comment. After everyone who posted comments in this comment section dies, after Google goes bankrupt, after the sun expands enough to destroy Earth, this piece will live on, somewhere, very far.

The last part made me sad... i just came here to listen to the piece my teacher gave me why you do dis to me

You don't need to be sad, when I remember these things I just accept, because I can't change, and to be continuously disturbed or sad about these facts will not make my life better.

Once you listen to this version, you can't seemingly go back to listen to other versions anymore. Truly incredible.
The most beautiful version of this partita I’ve ever heard.

Have you listened to recordings of Yehudi Menuhin playing this? the atmosphere he creates cannot be matched by any other violinists or musicians
I love the ornamentation! It keeps the repetition of the rondo interesting.
The look on some of the musicians' faces truly show their admiration for such a wonderful violinist! Well performed!
Ah, one of my favorite violinists playing my favorite Bach Partita for solo violin. I love the purity of his tone and the way he truly makes it sound like a dance :)

I love how on every video I see of Shaham, people in the comments are pointing out celebrity look-alikes in the orchestra 😂
This is wonderful! I feel so great after watching this. Not only that, I really like how he added all these extra notes to the song. I feel like the viewers would enjoy this!

Good observation, we call those "ornaments" in the musical world :) A big part of baroque playing was the extent to which you did this, you were expected to improvise the ornaments and add to the music. I like his ornamentation too.
Today, I listened to Gil's Bach. I was so impressed.
I got to see him live in CA 25 years ago when he had black hair and a pot belly. Still one of the most stunning musical experiences of my life. My favorite violinist.
it's amazing how much such a simple encore can do.
"It means that when I'm happy, my music sounds like this:"
My favorite version of this lovely piece! So much thought put into every note
Pure Joy; dancing and singing all the way. Merci Gil
I really love his tone. It really matches the character of this movement in particular!
The ornamentation has me grinning like crazy!!
J ai découvert et entendu Shaham à L'Auditorium de Lyon. J'ai été touchée par son interprétation. Quelle émotion
Harrison Ford looks impressed.
Those smaller flourishes and runs added in just made it really come to life. Thanks for the fresh take on a classic piece!
Magnificent! Gil Shaham captured the resonance beautifully. I first heard this in a Swingle Singers arrangement on Sesame Street in a film, "You can clean almost anything" (which was on the premiere episode on Nov. 10, 1969). The music fit the subject to a T, showing how malleable and universally applicable Bach's music is to a variety of occasions old and new. Thanks for posting, and bravo!
How many times do you suppose you have to have played that piece before you can play it like that? Just a testament to what talent and hard work can accomplish.

What a gorgeous sounding violin. It has an undeniable beautiful warm quality to it. Mr. Shaham’s phrasing was spot-on as well 👍🏻. 🌴☀️🌴
Beaucoup d'idées ! une grande cohérence de son, de phrasé, de conception, au service de l'émotion, c'est remarquable et beau, merci
Such tasteful playing! Clear, vibrant, energetic. Really wonderful to listen to :)
I’m so grateful I was there that night to hear this incredible performance in person.
Play the most familiar solo violin piece in front of lots of violinist from Berlin Philharmonic. Only master does that!
I love the extra fun bits he adds, plus how he seems to look at individual audience members as if to say, "this next part is for you."
