Bach - Cantata Mein Herze schwimmt in Blut BWV 199 - Bernardini | Netherlands Bach Society

Музыка

For the musical setting of the heartrending 'Mein Herze schwimmt in Blut', performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, Bach chose a succession of expressive recitatives and da capo arias in an Italian style. Although in his younger years Bach was seen mainly as an organ virtuoso, his ambitions were to regularly write church much in honour of God. Not until 1714 did Bach get the chance to fulfil this wish, when he was appointed as Konzertmeister in Weimar.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on June 7th 2014 at the Walloon Church, Amsterdam. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

Women never sang and Lutherans did not use castratti. Bach was left with relatively untrained boys to sing the higher parts. That Bach was an excellent soprano himself must have been a particular thorn in his side.

@@P1B1U1H1 Wrong. JSBs wife Anna Magdalena was a soprano and sung in church. And if the mass in b minor was written for August den Starken, king of Saxony and Poland, it was ment to be performed in the (catholic) Hofkirche at Dresden and its choir with professional castratos.

Peter John Karl Hunold “In Leipzig, Bach composed for a choir whose members ranged up to age 23 - that is, young men as well as boys. Bach's altos could have been either boys or men singing in a falsetto range (boys in the 18th century were able to sing in the treble range until they turned 17 or 18). Yet evidence is inconclusive as to which high voices Bach preferred. The American Bach scholar Joshua Rifkin has noted that the standard practice in the German courts of the time was to use adult males to sing alto. But even if this is the case, and Bach’s altos were men, they may have sounded very different from today’s countertenors (men who sing in an alto range), possessing different tone production, declamation and phrasing. Some conductors today also prefer feature female voices, the argument being that they possess greater musicianship and technical maturity.” www.wqxr.org/story/279211-bach-360-what-kinds-singers-did-bach-prefer/ That Bach’s wife was an exception does not change this generalized lack of female voices. Neither does the presence of Castrati in Catholic Churches dent the lack of them in Lutheran Churches. I just learned men were used for Alto’s from this, but note the disclaimer. In today’s society women altos and sopranos do spectacularly. For me, no countertenor matches the great American countertenors of the recent past, Mickey Mouse, Rocket J Squirrel, and Bart Simpson. Let us use voices in their natural ranges.

redbrian3655 what voicing was used? Did they use castrati? We must remember, of course, that women also played none of the instruments in addition to singing, in general, none of the voices. There’s a dynamite version of BWV 1083 with ONLY female voices, including an all-female choir, Guillemette Laurens & Nancy Argenta never sang better anywhere else, imho

On that day, pollen was king. 500 pound head. Mississippi flowing out the nose etc. Within three hours of the mask symptoms disappeared. Have worn it when driving & out doors since & needed only three nasal steroid snorts. Give it a try. It may change your life.

Beautiful professional performance - vocal as well as instruments. I have one suggestion, though: to find a sound-balance-solution in order to highlight the lower register in the soprano's voice which the oboe sometimes 'gets over' the voice. Otherwise, it is a perfect realization of this Cantata. Thanks for this fine upload.

What a stunning hobo play...! "Tief Gebückt" feels rushed. I don't think the light happy airiness suit the lyrics. The lady's voice sounds gorgeous yet the deep feelings of distress and hope were not conveyed to me during this performance. Because of the rushed tempo it would be difficult for any soloist to feel those lyrics anyway...
