this "slow speed" is the truer best speed. Others fail to see the light of genius in this speed.

Furtwängler is the only conductor who has understood Bach and Bach is the greatest musician!

What a depth and richness of feeling here! For comparisons sake, I just listened to the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra's interpretation of this piece. They have a very clean, crisp sound...very light and pure...but it has very little feeling, and of course they play it too fast. Very few seem to understand the feeling of Bach's music. Furtwängler did. And Glenn Gould did. But who have we got today?

Very well put. Bach, above all, is transcendental music and the interpretation has to be soulful. Recording quality comes second. Technical excellency will never compensate for the lack of soul.

No-one today would dare to take this piece this slowly... But in the hands of Furtwängler it becomes truly transcendental; (if not trance inducing!)

I guess part of the reason why it sounds richer is because he's using a full string section. But the feeling here is amazing. I never experienced this piece like this before.

To me yes, although the sound is very weak. It is even better than Furtwängler's recordings after the war. I love some of Furtwängler's recordings of Bach. The top is the St Matthew Passion of 1952. Unfortunately only the half of the recording remains but it is the best ever recorded by far. It is not available on KZread. You can find Furtwängler's recording of 1954 on youtube but it is much less good (except the 'finale').

Unfortunately no. Bach's recordings of Menuhin in the 1930s are also fantastic. In particular, the best sonatas and partitas for solo violin ever. The same for the concertos with Enesco.

Do you have a favorite version of the Moonlight Sonata? P.S. Glenn Gould version I do not like, because too fast.

I have found: Edwin Fischer 1949. Unfortunately, the sound is not good but much better than Gleen Gould, Claudio Arrau, Arthur Rubinstein and Wilhelm Kempff. Edwin Fischer is fantastic as a pianist as Dinu Lipatti, Alfred Cortot and the best one: Clara Haskil.

That is the original, it must be slow according to Bach.

I thinks its good for background music while you do something else, but i dont like listening to this without doing anything else
