Live at Budokan Black Night... Man, I really loved this this one! So different from everything else I've heard from them, and the Kami band nailed the first half with some fun self-indulgence :-)

Dancing in the dark 2 meters above a rotating stage, a 16yr old Suzuka sings of an Unending Nightmare, being chased by a Faceless Terror and Begging a Boon that it show her its face just once before she dies. That's Metal. That's Babymetal!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Great reaction. The Kami Band here in order of solos - Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). Its like they were doing a ritual summoning Su-metal from the depths of ... below stage. Additional instruments like synth, piano, violins etc plus additional vocals - growls, screams, choral pieces etc are on backing track ... and yes they do all play to a click track. Leda, Takayoshi and Mikio were the main stay guitarists from 2013 and would swap in and out depending on their own availability (and if two of them weren't available there would occasionally be others who could step in just as one or two other bassists and drummers stepped in on those very rare occasions when BOH or Hideki were not available). After Mikio's tragic accident at the turn of the year 2017-18 one of those other guitarists, ISAO, became more of a regular with Leda and Takayoshi. Ganimal83 has listed more songs with Kami Band intros .... they don't always play those intros before those songs, but will do more often than not (actually I think the intros before 'Yava' and 'Awadama Fever' were one time only things). 'The Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' usually precedes 'Rondo of Nightmare', but at the Tokyo Dome they played it before one of the other Su-metal's solos. The instrumental intros are the Kami Band's own compositions, they are not on the BABYMETAL albums, they only play the live shows so you will only hear them at the live shows. There can't be many 16 year olds who could follow that intro and then just take over the whole stage and arena the way Su did as she danced on her tiny platform way up in the air, all lights on her (so seeing the edges of that platform can't have been easy either) and the Kamis slowly spinning round below and around her. This was only the second time she had ever performed this song live - the first time was the night before. I feel this song has some Prog elements with the time changes and chord progressions you were talking about and was the first of their songs to include that. This is also possibly the darkest of their songs lyrically. Your understanding of the lyrics was pretty much right. Rondo is a musical term denoting a repeated theme - something like that anyway. I believe they borrowed the term for the title of this song as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare, being chased through the darkness by something she can't see. Eventually she hides, but it is still coming closer. Knowing there is no escape she asks that if she is to die won't it at least reveal itself to her. Su-metal's other solo songs are in the comments below (my own favourite is 'Amore', but there's not much between them ... BOH's solo in that one tips the balance I think). She also did some one-off solo cover songs for special occasions like birthday related shows. At Legend D (her 15th birthday in 2012) she covered 'White Love'. At Legend 1997 (16th birthday) 'Tamashii No Rufuran' (I feel like I've forgotten one ... maybe not). There are also 4 Black BABYMETAL songs. Black BABYMETAL was Yui and Moa performing as a duo giving Su a break. Their songs are: 'Onedari Daisakusen' '4 No Uta' (or 'Song 4') 'Sis Anger' and 'GJ'

Hell yeah! This is one of my favorite performances. Su sings about running from a repeating and unseen nightmare in the night, and eventually, giving in to that darkness. This was day 2 of the first concert that Kami Band backed Babymetal fully. Prior, they’ve only played encores (since 2012). Guitarist with blue ESP is Leda Cygnus, and he changes out with Mikio and Takayoshi depending on availability and shows. *Other Su-metal solos:* Akatsuki (Budokan 2014) No Rain No Rainbow (Official, Live) Amore (Wembley 2016): Best version, but use “Babymetal Reactor Resource” for copyright. *Other songs with Kami Band Solos:* Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014) Yava! (Fox Festival 2017) Awadama Fever (Fox Festival 2017) Kagerou (Legend Metal Galaxy 2020): Kami West Metali (On Tour 2023): Kami West, Fan Cams only for now. Look forward to more!

⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 Leda Cygnus (Shinji Yuuto) started playing with the Kami Band at LEGEND Z (February 1st, 2013). That was also Takayoshi Ohmura's first show with the group. Mikio Fujioka's first Kami Band appearance was at Inazuma Rock Fes (September 22nd, 2013). They rotated quite a bit over the years. ISAO only began regularly playing guitar in the Kami Band after Mikio passed away, with just a couple of appearances before that.

Mischiefs is not on any album, but it was one of their regular Kami band intros. The East Kami intros did come before Rondo a bit early on, but later it was most often before Catch Me if You Can, and less often before Awadama Fever, Yava, Akatsuki, and maybe a few others. If this was your first Su solo, I'd definitely recommend checking out Akatsuki from Tokyo Dome Black Night, which also features this intro (same band lineup actually, Taka, Leda, BOH, Hideki), but both the intro and the song are miles better.

It is pretty well known they use tracks and in nearly every song. There are a handful of songs where it is credible that there are captures of Su-'s IEM feed. The one for Rondo has several points where there is a metronome counting in 3's, no clicks though. However, there is no count or pitch cue for Su- to come in with that "scream" during the bridge. 😮🤩 This is my favorite performance of this song. Especially the staging. Su-metal up on the platform, literally waltzing to that heavy metal chorus, while the band plays on the slowly rotating stage below presents the image of a music box. 😍

Yep, BOH is such a fun musician to watch on stage. I know with scheduling and visas it's easier to use the Western Kami band but the OG Kami band is great and was so much a part of early Babymetal live shows.

Great reaction! This is one of my favorite songs of theirs - the darkness of the chords, the chromatic descent of the bass line during the chorus, the odd-meter intro, and the haunting interlude, topped with her amazing voice are just pure ear candy. The other one where she sings solo is Akatsuki, which is an absolute powerhouse of a song. Much love! Kitsune up ;-)

  • @road-runner

Excellent reaction, thanks for considering our suggestion. You are totally right, they are so good that you get easily used to it and start considering this as "normal". Until you see them live and it becomes a total experience. Yes, all of them have a click track also with cues on their IEM. This disposition on the stage is very rare for the Kami Band. I'd say it's very unique for this particular song and performance. Yes, you got the lyrics right. "Rondo of Nightmare" is probably their darkest song lyrically. It's about Su being trapped into an endless nightmare, without any chance to escape, where she's chased by a dark entity as she tries to run away and hide. Finally she asks the entity to reveal its real nature before giving up. This was just the second time they performed it live (the first one was just the previous night at the same venue) and Su-metal, being 16 at the time, was standing by herself on a relatively small and elevated platform, without any safety and probably not being able so see a thing due to the spotlight. This is so freaking metal! I'd like to suggest you this one, being one of their best songs objectively: "Syncopation" (Live pro-shot compilation): kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZiWm7yyYLzKf8Y.html Until next time! 🤘🦊

🦊🤘🔥 Rondo of Nightmare is a masterpiece, honestly the darkest nuanced song I've ever heard. BABYMETAL already had such gems since the first album, Idk if you already watched Akatsuki but it's another solo from SU that I would suggest for a reaction, she has four solo songs, this one, Akatsuki, Amore & No Rain, No Rainbow. I would say Akatsuki is as powerful as Rondo of Nightmare or even more, I can't decide what song I like the most tho lol. Also maybe now that you watched a solo from SU it would be cool to check out a BLACK BABYMETAL song like Sis. Anger, probably their heaviest song, it's performed by MOA & YUI only as they formed this cool subunit of BABYMETAL lol.

Kamiband : We're gonna blow your minds with our awesome solos! Sumetal : Hold my matcha latte.... Love watching Hideki in this, when they pan to him in the beginning, he looks like he's just casually drumming and not responsible for the pounding in the solo. Most singers might get intimidated having to follow the spectacular performance by the Kamiband, but 16yr old Su just gets up there, and shows you why Babymetal was built around her. Another reason theyre so tight together is because they often play together on other projects... Mikio (rip) and BOH have a jazz fusion band called Kariband which invited a lot of musicians to play with them, some are also from Japans metal scene. 🤘🦊🤘

Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar) went to the Muscians Institute Japan in Osaka when he was around 18-19 years old over 20 years ago when Marty Friedman (fmr Megadeth guitarist) was a guest teacher. He has since been part of Marty's band, among other band collabs, and also is an instructor at the Musicians Institute. Muscians Institute is also the same school that Midori Tatematsu of Lovebites learned how to play an electric guitar after dropping out of a pharmacy college at the age of 20. Two wildly different songs. I’m a fan of the first, “Manners,” but the fans of “Black Hole” are legion. Band Maid has appeal across and between several genres. Lyrics? Miku 🌹 (our small pigeon) is the primary lyricist and speaks the most English of all the Maids. And that is not much. She uses an iPad to help her communicate with audiences. She is extremely clever, poetic and philosophical. She works closely with translators and purposefully includes English lyrics to reach out to international audiences. Most lyrics are in Japanese, as Saiki (our Ice Queen) prefers that. Words are chosen as you said, because they sound good and rhyme. Most English words or phrases will be at the very beginning or end of lines. And you’ll notice a heavy emphasis on vocables, designed to include the audience in the show. As you travel the world of Band Maid, you’ll find plenty of inside jokes, stories and quirks. Band Maid are more than musicians. They are genuinely nice people with incredibly different personalities that miraculously came together and, almost by sheer willpower, made their breakthrough and made the most of it.
